    • A high pressure well cementing plug assembly for use in a pipe during the cementing of the pipe in a well bore is provided by the present invention. The assembly basically comprises top and bottom cementing plugs which include high strength inner tubes for supporting high differential pressures exerted on the plugs. The bottom end of the inner tube of the bottom plug is adapted to supportingly engage a float shoe or the like upon landing. Also, the bottom end of the inner tube of the top plug and the top end of the inner tube of the bottom plug are adapted to supportingly engage each other when the top plug lands on the bottom plug. The high strength inner tubes support high pressure differentials exerted on the plugs and prevent the plugs from collapsing or otherwise being damaged.

    • A tool and method for use with a drill string or the like in capturing an object in a cavity, such as subterranean borehole, include a mandrel, object engaging apparatus for latching the mandrel to the object as the tool is moved into the borehole, and string engaging apparatus for keeping the mandrel latched to the drill string as the mandrel is moved into the borehole and for unlatching the mandrel from the drill string when the drill string is rotated in a first direction with the mandrel latched to the object. A washover pipe and mill, which are connected to the drill string, may be moved into contact with the object after the mandrel is unlatched from the drill string for milling through the object. A ratchet allows the mill to move toward the object relative to the mandrel and prevents the mill from moving away from the object relative to the mandrel. The ratchet allows the mill to move away from the object when the drill string is rotated in the first direction and lifted relative to the mandrel. The string engaging assembly relatches the mandrel to the drill string when the drill string is moved away from the object and rotated in a second direction. The object engaging apparatus unlatches the mandrel from the object when the mandrel is moved away from the object and rotated in the second direction.

    • A pressure actuated flow control valve for use in conjunction with inflatable packers and grouting systems on offshore oil platforms. The valve includes an elongated body with a plurality of pistons slidably disposed in the body between first and second positions, each piston being positioned adjacent a corresponding discharge port on the body. When in the first position, the piston sealingly closes the corresponding discharge port. When the piston is in the second position, the piston sealingly closes another discharge port adjacent the corresponding discharge port. A plurality of sleeves are annularly positioned around each of the pistons. First and second pressure lines are provided in communication with volumes adjacent opposite ends of pistons such that alternate pressurizing of the first and second pressure lines results in sequential movement of the pistons from the first to second positions. Interaction of the sleeves with the pistons provides that the pistons will only move from the first position to the second position and reverse movement thereof is prevented. An inflation system, a grout system, an offshore platform and a template for a tension leg platform utilizing the pressure actuated flow control valve are also disclosed.

    • A cementing head is provided for introduction and separation of fluids in a well. The cementing head comprises a plug container having upper and lower fluid inlets oriented tangent to the bore of the plug container. The upper inlet is located below the upper end of the plug so that a compact manifold can be used therewith. The compact manifold includes first and second discharge tees which may be connected by a one-piece coupling such that rotation of the coupling in one direction causes the discharge tees to seal against a spacer therebetween and rotation in a second direction causes the discharge tees to move apart from one another. A coupling for quick coupling of the plug container to a casing collar is also provided. The coupling apparatus comprises a locking clamp having pivotally connected arcuate clamp portions. Each arcuate clamp portion engages a lower end of a casing collar. A threaded adjustment is provided for increasing an initial compression of a seal against the upper end of the casing collar.

    • An object to be displaced in an oil or gas well includes a body that is movable through a conduit of an oil or gas well and an electrical circuit that is connected to the body. The electrical circuit can include an active or passive radio frequency identification tag, at least the passive type of which is responsive to an externally generated alternating current electromagnetic signal such that the electrical circuit transmits a responsive signal for reception outside the object as the object moves through the conduit. A detector apparatus for an oil or gas well generally comprises: a body movable through a conduit of an oil or gas well; an electrical circuit connected to the body, the electrical circuit for transmitting an electromagnetic signal for reception away from the body as the body moves through the conduit; and a receiver disposed relative to the conduit and the body to receive the electromagnetic signal from the electrical circuit. The apparatus can further comprise a transmitter disposed relative to the conduit and the body to transmit into the conduit an alternating current electromagnetic signal, wherein the electrical circuit transmits its electromagnetic signal in response to the alternating current electromagnetic signal from the transmitter. Related methods are also described.
