摘要： A mass spectrometer having a mass filter which applies a transient voltage profile to accelerate ion packets. The voltage profile is chosen to have a functional form which imparts each ion species with a kinetic energy which is larger the larger the mass-to-charge ratio and a velocity which is smaller the larger the mass-to-charge ratio. The ions are detected in an ion detector which discriminates between different ion species based on their kinetic energy and taking account of the functional form of the voltage profile. Suitable voltage profiles include periodic functions such as sinusoids, triangles and sawtooths, which allow the amplification of drive pulses in the mass filter to be carried out with narrow band amplification stages, which are simple and inexpensive to construct.

摘要： A pipe coupling comprising a sealing gasket to fit over adjacent ends of pipes to be connected end-to-end and a housing which clamps around the gasket, has the housing in the form of a cast metal or alloy band which substantially encircles the gasket and has at its circumferential ends opposed lugs between which a wedge portion of the gasket extends and which are connected by at least one clamping bolt engaged with retaining means, whereby the lugs can be urged towards one another to contract the band onto the gasket. The lugs grip the wedge portion as the band is contracted and prevent the body of the gasket from bulging outwardly between the lugs. Preferably the band is made of a ductile metal or alloy, e.g. ductile iron, and is slightly oval in its free state so that it assumes a substantially true circular form when fully contracted onto the gasket.

摘要： The present invention discloses the use of PSP-94, PCK3145 and other derivatives and biologically active analogues for treating a patient having a condition such as metastasis, metastatic cancer, a condition associated with elevated levels of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), PTHrP-induced osteolysis and/or hypercalcemia of malignancy. These compounds were found to be effective treatment modalities for bone metastasis caused by prostate cancer. Furthermore, decrease in cellular and plasma PTHrP levels as well as plasma calcium levels observed by treatment with such compound can serve as useful biochemical markers for monitoring the efficacy of these anti-metastatic compounds.
