    • An airbag apparatus mountable on a vehicle having a side window, a first pillar adjoining the window and a second pillar adjoining the window on the opposite side is disclosed. The airbag apparatus includes an airbag adapted to be housed in an upper edge of the window, and the airbag includes a shutter section that covers the window. The shutter section includes mounting portions that are located above the first and second pillars, an inflatable region comprised of a first pillar side region, a supporting region and a preventing region, and a thin panel region. The thin panel region includes therein a catching point that is intended to catch a vehicle occupant during a rollover event of the vehicle, and the supporting inflatable region and preventing inflatable region surround the catching point continuously at the lower side and on a side of the second pillar.

    • An airbag apparatus mountable on a vehicle having a side window, a first pillar adjoining the window and a second pillar adjoining the window on the opposite side is disclosed.     • A head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag having such a vertical dimension that the lower end region thereof is located on the beltline of a door of a vehicle upon deployment. The airbag includes a plurality of vertical cells disposed side by side along an anteroposterior direction and each inflatable into a rod-like shape extending generally vertically and a reinforcing portion located either on the inboard side or on the outboard side of at least two adjoining vertical cells out of the vertical cells at the lower end region of the airbag. The reinforcing portion is in gas communication with the vertical cells and inflatable into a horizontal rod-like shape (extending across the adjoining vertical cells).

    • In a head protection air bag system of the invention, an air bag includes an edge side shield portion which is accommodated in a pillar portion. The edge side shield portion is mounted on a body side by a first mounting portion and a second mounting portion which is positioned further downwards than the first mounting portion. An auxiliary mounting portion which is fastened together with the second mounting portion is provided in a position where a longitudinal position of the edge side shield portion coincides with the second mounting portion and a vertical position thereof coincides with the first mounting portion. An extension which extends in a straight line from the first mounting portion is provided on the auxiliary mounting portion. In the edge side shield portion, a portion between the second mounting portion and the first mounting portion is connected to the extension by a connecting portion.

    • A side airbag apparatus has an airbag assembly that protects a passenger seated on a seat in a passenger compartment by being inflated and deployed at a side wall portion of the passenger compartment corresponding to the seat in a collision of a vehicle. The airbag assembly includes a main airbag and an auxiliary airbag that inflate and deployed in a state arranged along a lateral direction of the vehicle. If the body size of the passenger is greater than or equal to a predetermined size, the main airbag is inflated and deployed and the auxiliary airbag is not inflated or deployed. If the body size of the passenger is smaller than the predetermined size, the main airbag and the auxiliary airbag are both inflated and deployed. Thus, in the latter case, the airbag assembly in the inflated and deployed state has a great thickness in the lateral direction of the vehicle compared to the case in which the body size of the passenger is greater than or equal to the predetermined size.
