    • An electrochemical cell (30) having an on-cell tester (38) for visually indicating the condition of the cell (30) is provided with an electrically conductive metal ring (10) pressed onto the negative terminal at the crimp seal end of the cell (30) to permit the tester lead to make an electrical contact with the negative terminal without shorting across the positive terminal of the cell (30). The ring (10) has a cylindrical wall portion (12) or gripping means which frictionally grips a corresponding mating cylindrical wall portion on the negative terminal and also has a flange portion (16) adjacent the positive terminal. A layer of electrically insulating material (18) disposed between the flange and positive terminal prevents electrical contact between the terminals. The tester lead is either permanently electrically connected to the ring (10) or intermittently connected by the user, depending on the type of tester used.

    • An electrochemical cell has a wheel shaped molded plastic seal member (10) of a unitary construction which includes a central cylindrical hub (12) from which depend in outward radial sequence, an annular pressure vent (18), a boss (26), a downward projecting skirt (30), an annular flexure means (38), for providing radial movement and an outer rim terminating at its periphery in a cylindrical wall (40). The pressure vent (18) includes a thin membrane ring (22) depending from the hub (12) which joins the hub (12) to an annular diaphragm (20). A hinged ring (24) joins the periphery of the diaphragm (20) to the boss (26). The seal (10) member is designed so that the membrane ring (22) fails primarily in shear at excessive cell pressure which makes the vent (18) more reliable and easier to fabricate.

    • A metal support disk (10) useful in sealing an electrochemical cell exerts a resilient outward radial force against the seal to assure seal integrity over a wide temperature range and exerts an upward force against an adjacent metal end cap terminal (100) to assure continued mechanical and electrical contact with the terminal. The support is a stepped disk having a centrally located, shallow, cylindrical pill-box (12) with the bottom (22) of the pill-box (12) extending radially outward into an annular ring (24). A spring means in the form of an S-shaped rim (26) extends down from the periphery of the ring (24) terminating at its bottom in an outward extending flange (28). The edge of the flange (28) presses a plastic seal member against the inside wall.

    • A metal support disk (10) for an electrochemical cell seal exerts a resilient outward radial force against the seal to maintain seal integrity over a wide range of operating temperature and, at the same time, exerts an upward force against the bottom of the metal end cap terminal of the cell to assure electrical contact between the anode inside the cell and the terminal. The disk includes a central, circular platform (14) connected to an outer, sealing edge sealing flange (28) by an annular flexure means which permits radially inward and outward movement of the sealing edge (30) when the end of the cell is radially crimped during the sealing process. The crimping also moves the central portion (12) of the disk up which results in the upward force being exerted against the end terminal. The flexure means is a sequential series of three annular, curved ribs with the first (20) and third (26) curved downward and the second (24) curved upward. A ring (22) depending radially outward and at an upward angle from the first rib connects the first rib to the second rib and helps to prevent plastic deformation of the disk sealing.
