摘要： A process for improving the survival rate (post-hatching) or hatching rate of chicks from an egg is disclosed, where the polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content of the egg is increased. Such an increase can also improve growth, feed conversion ratio or the immunological status of the hatched chicks. Improvements in these parameters have been found even when increasing the PUFA content of the egg by as little as 0.01 %. The PUFA is transported across the shell of the egg, by manual injection, and the PUFA can be injected into the egg yolk, into the egg white, or both. Injection can be within 24 hours of the egg being laid. The invention therefore also provides novel eggs, where at least 10% of the arachidonic acid (ARA) inside the eggs is in triglyceride form. The invention also provides eggs that contain one or more PUFAs or lipids in the egg white, or where the egg (or yolk) has at least 120 mg of a PUFA such as ARA. These eggs may be intact, with a shell, or may be without the shell (and therefore in a raw or cooked form). Such eggs can be included into foodstuffs, such as for humans.

摘要： The use of a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) as, or in the preparation of, a coccidiostat is disclosed. PUFAs have been discovered to have coccidiostatic activity, and can therefore be used in the treatment or prophylaxis of coccidiosis. They can be employed in both veterinary and pharmaceutical compositions to treat both humans and animals. The PUFA may also be included in animal feed. The PUFA is active against single cell coccidia organisms, especially of the subgroup Eimeriorina, in particular in E. acervulina, E. maxima or E. tenella .

摘要： The use of low concentrations of (a) PUFA (s) in an animal feed for monogastric and/or non-ruminant animals is disclosed to improve growth and feed conversion ratio. The concentration can be much lower than expected from the art, namely from 0.1 to 0.0001 g/kg feed, and yet still be effective. This may enable farmers to use lower concentrations of PUFA (s) in feed and hence reduce the cost of the feed. The feed may also have one or more antimicrobial enzymes present.

摘要： The use of two antimicrobial enzymes for use in feed for monogastric or non-ruminant animals is disclosed to improve growth and feed conversion ratio of poultry, pigs, veal calves and fish. This may enable the farmer to avoid the use of growth promoting antibiotics. The enzymes have antibacterial activity and one can disrupt the cell wall of bacteria (eg. lysozyme) with another producing a compound toxic to bacteria (eg. oxidase). The efficacy of these enzymes is enhanced by the inclusion of a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) such as arachidonic acid.

The invention discloses methods of feeding a low-phytate diet supplemented with a phytase. Feeding an animal a low-phytate diet comprising a phytase improves the mineral status of the animal and results in improved zootechnical results such as improved growth rate and feed conversion ratio. The invention also discloses a low-phytate feed for animals supplemented with a phytase as well as methods for the preparation of such feed.
