摘要： A biopsy system comprises an introducer, a biopsy device having a needle, and a marker applier. The introducer may include a closed distal tip, a lateral aperture, a proximally facing interior wall, and a ramp that guides the closed distal end of a marker applier up and into abutment with the wall as the applier is fed into the introducer. The needle of the biopsy device includes a blunt distal end and features providing clearance for the ramp as the blunt distal end is brought into abutment with the wall when the needle is fed into the introducer. The introducer may alternatively include an open distal end having resiliently biased leaves that bear against an inserted biopsy device needle. In some other versions, a fin projects laterally from the closed distal end of a marker applier, spacing the distal end away from a sidewall region of the introducer cannula.

摘要： A biopsy system may have modes whereby fluid communication varies as a function of an axial position of a cutter. A tissue sample holder may be rotatable to index tissue chambers defined by removable trays, and may include a passage for inserting an instrument. A controller may control a tissue sample holder rotation mechanism based on the sensed position of a rotatable manifold, such as to present a collected biopsy sample to a user before collecting another biopsy sample in another chamber. A biopsy system may have an interface including visual features and user input devices. A vacuum canister may come packaged with tubing, and may include a port configured to mate with a port in a vacuum control module upon engagement of the canister with the module. A biopsy device may include features for sharps reduction, light sources, a motor driven firing mechanism, or a fine pitch drivetrain.

A motor is operable to both move the cutter relative to the needle and actuate a needle firing assembly to retract and fire the needle relative to the body. The biopsy device also includes a needle rotation assembly that is configured to substantially prevent rotation of the needle about the longitudinal axis when the needle is in a proximal position yet permit rotation of the needle about the longitudinal axis when the needle is in a distal position. A valve assembly of the biopsy device includes a slider that selectively couples a secondary lumen in the needle with either atmospheric air or saline based on the longitudinal position of the slider. The cutter passes through the slider.

摘要： A biopsy device comprises a body, a needle, a cutter, and a tissue sample holder. The tissue sample holder comprises an outer cup and a cap. A tray retains severed tissue samples from a biopsy procedure. In some versions, the tray is selectively detachable from the cap in a one- handed operation by the user. The tray may be ejected into a sample container, such as a formalin cup. The cap may include a threaded portion that is configured to engage a complementary threaded portion of a sample container to seal the sample container once the tissue samples have been transferred to the sample container from the tissue sample holder of the biopsy device. One or more ports may be provided in the cap to manage excess fluid within the outer cup of the tissue sample holder, and/or to provide integrated access for a marker delivery device.

摘要： A biopsy system (2) includes a first external device, a second external device and a control module interface (100). The control module interface is in electrical communication with both the first and second external devices, and the control module interface is in mechanical communication with the second external device. The control module interface is configured to be positioned remotely from at least one of the first and second external devices. The control module interface comprises a motor, operational electronics, a shaft connector assembly, an electrical connector and a cabinet configured to house the motor and operational electronics. The motor is in mechanical communication with the second external device via a mechanical cable. The operational electronics are configured to permit control of the motor and a motorized component of the second external device. In some embodiments, the mechanical cable comprises a flexible shaft cable, such as a speedometer cable.

Versions of the guide cube include a guide cube rotatable in two axes to provide additional hole positions, angled holes, and enlarged circular holes that function with a rotary guide member to support a non-circular biopsy instrument cannula for the rotation. The rotary guide member may have an unlocked state for easily sliding to a selected longitudinal position thereon.
