摘要： A biopsy system (2) includes a first external device, a second external device and a control module interface (100). The control module interface is in electrical communication with both the first and second external devices, and the control module interface is in mechanical communication with the second external device. The control module interface is configured to be positioned remotely from at least one of the first and second external devices. The control module interface comprises a motor, operational electronics, a shaft connector assembly, an electrical connector and a cabinet configured to house the motor and operational electronics. The motor is in mechanical communication with the second external device via a mechanical cable. The operational electronics are configured to permit control of the motor and a motorized component of the second external device. In some embodiments, the mechanical cable comprises a flexible shaft cable, such as a speedometer cable.

摘要： A biopsy system may have modes whereby fluid communication varies as a function of an axial position of a cutter. A tissue sample holder may be rotatable to index tissue chambers defined by removable trays, and may include a passage for inserting an instrument. A controller may control a tissue sample holder rotation mechanism based on the sensed position of a rotatable manifold, such as to present a collected biopsy sample to a user before collecting another biopsy sample in another chamber. A biopsy system may have an interface including visual features and user input devices. A vacuum canister may come packaged with tubing, and may include a port configured to mate with a port in a vacuum control module upon engagement of the canister with the module. A biopsy device may include features for sharps reduction, light sources, a motor driven firing mechanism, or a fine pitch drivetrain.

摘要： A biopsy device comprises a body and a needle extending distally from the body. The needle comprises a cannula and a tissue piercing tip that is unitary with the cannula. The tissue piercing tip may be formed by compressing the distal end of the cannula to put two distal cannula portions in apposition with each other. One of the apposed distal cannula portions may be removed. The remaining distal cannula portion may be formed into a blade of the tissue piercing tip, A cutter may be moved relative to the needle to sever samples from tissue protruding through a transverse aperture formed in the cannula. A gap may be provided between the exterior of the cutter and the interior of the cannula, permitting the cutter to be distally vented while a proximal vacuum is communicated to the cutter to transport severed tissue samples proximally through the cutter.

摘要： A tissue retrieval device includes an introducer tube and a tissue retrieval bag. The introducer tube is sized to be inserted into a patient through a trocar. The tissue retrieval bag may be selectively exposed at the distal end of the introducer tube within the patient. The tissue retrieval bag may receive a tissue specimen and be withdrawn from the patient. The tissue retrieval bag may include an inflatable portion. When inflated, the inflatable portion may extend the tissue retrieval bag from a contracted configuration to an expanded configuration. The inflatable portion may substantially seal a tissue specimen within the tissue retrieval bag. The tissue retrieval bag may me formed of an environmentally sensitive material such that the size of the tissue retrieval bag expands when the tissue retrieval bag is exposed within the patient.

The tubular member is insertable into a patient through a trocar to open the bag within the patient to receive a tissue specimen. The internal capacity provided by the bag may vary based on the longitudinal position of the frame members. The bag may be stretchable to increase its internal capacity. At least one sidewall of the bag may include one or more reinforcement members, which may influence the way in which the bag stretches by restricting stretching of the bag in one or more directions while freely permitting stretching of the bag in one or more other directions. Part of the undeployed bag may be contained in a recess formed in the side of the tubular member, with a removable cap being positionable over the undeployed bag and recess.

The bag is secured to the resilient member. The resilient member is compressible such that the resilient member and bag fit within a hollow interior portion of the tubular member. A rod (204) may advance the resilient member and bag out of the tubular member. The rod may define a transversed oriented recess (220) configured to retain at least a portion of the resilient member between the rod and the inner diameter of the tubular member when the resilient member is in its retracted position contained within the tubular member. The resilient member may alternatively comprise telescoping arms. The resilient member opens the bag when the resilient member and bag are deployed relative to the tubular member. 摘要： A specimen retrieval instrument comprises a handle assembly, an actuating rod, an introducer tube, and a retrieval bag. In some versions the instrument includes a fixed arm and a buckling arm that attach to the retrieval bag and that are in communication with the actuating rod. Upon translation of the rod through the tube, the bag may be distally deployed from a proximal position within the introducer tube, and the buckling arm may open the bag for receiving a specimen. In some versions the instrument includes a support arm and a spring loop, with the spring loop attaching to the retrieval bag and the support arm attaching to the spring loop. The support arm and spring loop are in communication with the actuating rod such that movement of the rod deploys the bag from an initial position within the tube and opens the retrieval bag for receiving a specimen.
