    • An additive manufacturing build plate system 100 comprising a plate body 102 defining a build surface 104, a rear surface 106 opposite the build surface, a peripheral surface 110 extending between the rear and build surface, and at least one gripping feature 112 defined in the peripheral surface extending inwardly into the plate body between the build and the rear surface. The system may include a handling bracket 118 removably engagable to the gripping feature 112 extending about the peripheral surface. The handling bracket may include a latch 124 latching with a main member 122, a sliding (136, fig.6) and a hinging mechanism (130, fig.4) allowing disengagement/engagement with the gripping feature, a mating feature 118 engaging with a slot in a corner of the plate body, and pins (144, fig.6) engaged in respective bores (142 fig.6) in the gripping feature. A second independent claim defining a method of handling a build plate comprising engaging a handling bracket with a gripping feature defined in a peripheral surface extending between a build and a rear surface of a plate body, and lifting the plate body with a lifting device (146, fig.8) engaged to the handling bracket.

    • A system 100 for removing powder from an additively manufactured article includes a powder removal mechanism 101 including a build plate holder 103 configured to hold a build plate at a distal end thereof; a first actuator 105 that is configured to angle/tilt the build plate holder relative to gravity and a second actuator 107 that is configured to rotate the build plate holder 103 about a central axis A of the build plate holder 103. The system may also include a vibration device 109, such as an ultrasonic transducer, to vibrate the build plate holder. Preferably, the first actuator is a piston actuator hingedly mounted to the build plate holder and the second actuator may be a belt drive motor. An air flow system 125 may be provided to direct pressurised air to the build plate holder. A powder recovery system, including a vacuum 121, for recovering and recycling the powder may be provided. Preferably, a control system 127 is operatively connected to the system and may include a part correlation module to move the build plate in accordance with an input part type. A control system configured to be operatively connected to a powder removal mechanism comprising a part correlation module is further disclosed.
