    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cooling or heating discrete materials, which is improved so that a high coefficient of heat transfer may be given to the discrete materials in a heat exchanger module.SOLUTION: The apparatus (1) for cooling or heating the discrete materials (3) includes: a discrete materials introduction module (2); the discrete materials heat exchanger module (4) arranged on the downstream side of the discrete materials introduction module (2); and a discrete materials discharge module (5) arranged on the downstream side of the discrete materials heat exchanger module (4). The discrete materials heat exchanger module (4) is constituted so that the discrete materials (3) may be introduced into a region of the discrete materials heat exchanger module (4) by the gravitational action thereto. A temperature adjusting gas supply unit (18) is arranged so that a temperature adjusting gas may be made to flow through the discrete materials heat exchanger module (4) together with the discrete materials (3) in a parallel flow.
