    • A continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display (2) has a first substrate (21), a second substrate (22), and liquid crystal molecules (26) interposed between the substrates.     • An in plane switching liquid crystal display (2) includes a first substrate (220) and a second substrate (210) disposed opposite each other and spaced apart a predetermined distance. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, the liquid crystal layer containing a plurality of liquid crystal molecules (230). A plurality of pixel electrodes (213) and a plurality of counter electrodes (211) are formed on the first substrate in parallel alternating fashion. Two polarizers (240, 241) are disposed on the first substrate and the second substrate, respectively. A transflector (217) capable of transmitting and reflecting light beams is disposed on the first substrate. The in plane switching liquid crystal display can thus utilize ambient light beams as well as light beams provided by a backlight, so that the in plane switching liquid crystal display has low power consumption.

    • An in plane switching liquid crystal display (2) includes a first substrate (27), a second substrate (37) and a liquid crystal layer (23) having a plurality of liquid crystal molecules. A number of pixel electrodes (25) and common electrodes (24) are formed on the first substrate, and each of the pixel electrodes and common electrodes include at least two bend portions (241, 242, 243). Each bend portion has a first side and a second side. An original alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules form at least two different angles with the sides of the bend portions of the common and pixel electrodes. When a voltage is applied to the pixel electrodes and the common electrodes, the liquid crystal molecules are aligned along at least three different directions. Therefore, the IPS-LCD can have uniform viewing performance at different viewing angles.

    • A reflective type IPS LCD includes a transparent upper substrate (100) and a lower substrate (200), and liquid crystal molecules (300) interposed between the substrates. A reflection layer (250) is disposed on the lower substrate. A plurality of gate lines (170) and a plurality of data lines (180) are formed on the upper substrate, thereby defining a plurality of pixel regions arranged in a matrix. Each pixel region includes pixel electrodes (210) and common electrodes (220). The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes have a bent configuration, and are spaced apart from each other. Therefore the electric field generated by them is along two directions, and the LCD exhibits a two-domain display effect. When viewing the LCD display from any oblique angle, the color shifts generated by the two domains counteract, and thus the overall color shift of the display is small.
