    • The invention relates to a method for receiving data units when using one HARQ process of an HARQ protocol. The memory associated to the HARQ process is divided into several sub-areas, which are addressable by an identifier. Then, when data is received, same is stored in one of the sub-areas. By providing more than one sub-area for one HARQ process, it is possible to actually use one HARQ process for two (or more) different received data units, being from the same data flow or from a different data flow. The actual sub-area of the HARQ process for storing data units can be either freely selected at the receiving end or is indicated by an identifier associated with the data. Furthermore, persistent scheduled data is transmitted in units, scheduled at fixed time intervals. Thus, a control signaling field, usually used for indicating new units, can be used to store the identifier.

    • The invention relates to methods for providing IP packets from a core network node to a relay node, wherein the IP packets are conveyed via a base station to the relay node on a wireless interface. To suggest an interface termination for data transport between core network and a relay node that is allowing for a flexible QoS control, preferably on a per user equipment basis this invention proposes two different multiplexing modes for use on the interface between base station and relay node: a first mode in which there is only a single dedicated radio bearer between the base station and the relay node to which all IP packets are multiplexed/mapped, and a second multiplexing mode where multiple dedicated radio bearers between the base station and the relay node are configured and the base station is multiplexing IP packets to the individual dedicated radio bearers according to their QoS class.

    • The invention relates to methods for transmitting a buffer status report (BSR) in a mobile communication system, more particularly to the definition of rules for triggering, generating and transmitting buffer status reports. The invention also relates to a data transmission method utilizing new rules to decide data of which radio bearers is transmitted within a given transmission time interval. Moreover, the invention relates to scheduling method for radio resources that is taking into account additional scheduling—relevant information from the buffer status reporting and/or data transmission method. To avoid unnecessary grants from the network and to suggest an advanced handling of data transmissions the invention suggests a buffer status reporting and data transmission schemes that take into account the scheduling mode of data of radio bearers pending for transmission to decide whether to report on it in a buffer status report, respectively, whether to multiplex the data to a transport block for transmission.
