Next, attempting to authenticate the end user using the first userID and the first password provided. Finally, sending an error message to the end user in response to failing to authenticate the end user using the first userID and the first password wherein the error message comprises a first option and a second option. The first option comprising a first key combination that if entered would allow the end user to enter a second password and authenticate using the first userID and the second password. The second option comprising a second key combination that if entered would allow the end user to enter a second userID and a third password and authenticate using the second UserID and the third password.

    • A tunnel barrier in proximity with a layer of a rare earth element-transition metal (RE-TM) alloy forms a device that passes negatively spin-polarized current. The rare earth element includes at least one element selected from the group consisting of Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb. The RE and TM have respective sub-network moments such that the absolute magnitude of the RE sub-network moment is greater than the absolute magnitude of the TM sub-network moment. An additional layer of magnetic material may be used in combination with the tunnel barrier and the RE-TM alloy layer to form a magnetic tunnel junction. Still other layers of tunnel barrier and magnetic material may be used in combination with the foregoing to form a flux-closed double tunnel junction device.

    • One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for streaming digital media content with transition effects. Audio data may be modulated and received by the streaming device for an audio fade-in effect. Similarly, video data may be modulated to perform various visual effects. Such a technique allows for fading-in of audio and/or video, fading-out of audio and/or video, and effects that blend audio from different content and video from different content during a transition from one digital media content to a different digital media content or within the same digital media content. The modulated audio and video data to generate the audio or video effect during a transition may be precomputed or computed in real-time and transmitted to the streaming device. The streaming device switches between original unmodulated content streams and effect content streams when transitions are detected.

    • One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for starting playback of an audio portion of digital media content before a video portion of the digital media content is received. An advantage of the disclosed technique is that the perceived delay from the time when a user selects the digital media content to when playback of the digital media content begins is reduced. The audio may be faded-in and one or more still frames of video data may be displayed while the video stream is retrieved. Additionally, a license for DRM (Digital Rights Management) encryption of the title content may be retrieved before starting playback of the video stream, so that the digital media content that is retrieved is also protected.

    • A method and system for providing a magnetic transducer are disclosed. The method and system include providing a magnetic element including a free layer, a nonmagnetic spacer layer, a pinned layer, and a pinning layer adjacent to the pinned layer. The free layer is to be biased in a first direction. The pinning layer biases the pinned layer magnetization in a second direction. The pinning layer is oriented along the second direction. A hard bias structure is adjacent to the magnetic element. The hard bias structure magnetization is initialized such that it has a nonzero component along the second direction. The method and system also include performing thermal treatment(s) after initializing the hard bias magnetization. The thermal treatment(s) are above room temperature. The method and system further include resetting the hard bias magnetization substantially along the first direction after the thermal process(es) are performed.
