The pixel electrodes have a plurality of curving comb portions so as to generate a continuous variation electric field between the pixel and common electrodes. Liquid crystal molecules in the FFS-LCD device are twisted in different continuous directions so as to reduce the color shift.

    • A reflective type fringe field switching liquid crystal display (FFS LCD) (2) includes an upper and a lower substrates (21, 22) facing each other, and a liquid crystal layer (23) interposed between the upper and lower substrates. A plurality of gate lines (216) and a plurality of data lines (218) are associated with one of the upper and lower substrates, thereby defining a plurality of pixel regions. A common electrode (211) and a plurality of pixel electrodes (212) overlying the common electrode are disposed in the pixel regions in order to form at least one fringe electric field. At least one of the pixel electrodes in each pixel region has a bent portion in order to establish an electric field in at least two directions between the pixel electrodes and the common electrode in the pixel region. Accordingly, the reflective FFS LCD has a high quality, reliable display.

    • A reflective type IPS LCD includes a transparent upper substrate (100) and a lower substrate (200), and liquid crystal molecules (300) interposed between the substrates. A reflection layer (250) is disposed on the lower substrate. A plurality of gate lines (170) and a plurality of data lines (180) are formed on the upper substrate, thereby defining a plurality of pixel regions arranged in a matrix. Each pixel region includes pixel electrodes (210) and common electrodes (220). The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes have a bent configuration, and are spaced apart from each other. Therefore the electric field generated by them is along two directions, and the LCD exhibits a two-domain display effect. When viewing the LCD display from any oblique angle, the color shifts generated by the two domains counteract, and thus the overall color shift of the display is small.

    • A continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display (2) has a first substrate (21), a second substrate (22), and liquid crystal molecules (26) interposed between the substrates. When an electric field is applied between the substrates, the liquid crystal molecules are inclined to be oriented parallel to the substrates. The visual effect of the continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display is the sum of multiple smooth continuous domains. Thus the continuous domain vertical alignment liquid crystal display provides a more even display performance at various different viewing angles.
