摘要： Immunogenic compositions, cancer vaccines and methods for treating cancer are provided. Compositions comprising: (a) a glycan such as Globo H or an immunogenic fragment thereof, wherein the glycan is conjugated with a carrier protein by a linker such as para-nitrophenyl; and (b) an adjuvant comprising glycolipid capable of binding CD1d on a dendritic cell, such as an α-galactosyl-ceramide derivative, wherein the immunogenic composition induces an immune response that induces a higher relative level of IgG isotype antibodies as compared to IgM isotype antibodies, are provided. Immunogenic compositions comprising the carrier protein diphtheria toxin cross-reacting material 197 (DT-CRM197) and the adjuvant C34 are provided. Antibodies generated by immunogenic compositions disclosed herein further neutralize at least one of the antigens Globo H, stage-specific embryonic antigen-3 (SSEA-3) and stage-specific embryonic antigen-4 (SSEA-4). Therapeutics against breast cancer stem cells comprising immunogenic compositions comprising Globo H, SSEA-3 or SSEA-4 conjugated with DT-CRM197.

摘要： The crude extract of Plectranthus Amboinicus (PA) has anti-inflammatory effects and can inhibit AP-1 binding in vitro. The incubation with PA crude extract resulted in significant inhibition of the LPS-induced expression of IL-6, IL-12, MCP-1, and RANTES in HUVEC cells. After the crude extract was further fractionated using preparative HPLC, fraction 8, 9, 10 and 11 were identified to inhibit the AP-1 binding activity. The active component of fraction 8 is Mena 987; fraction 9 is Mena 998; fraction 10 is Mena 9102; and fraction 11 is rosmarinic acid and the synthestic rosmarinic acid analogues. Other compounds showed inhibitory activities as well. These compounds have inhibitory effects on AP-1 activity and are useful as preventive or therapeutic agent for diseases in which excessive expression or activities of AP-1 are involved.

摘要： Aluminum coated glass slides provide a novel glycan array platform. Specifically, aluminum coated glass slides increase sensitivity of fluorescent based assay methods. Additionally, aluminum coated glass slides allows for mass spectroscopic analysis of carbohydrates and provide a platform for examining activity of cellulases. The unique properties of ACG slides include: 1) the metal oxide layer on the surface can be activated for grafting organic compounds such as modified oligosaccharides; 2) the surface remains electrically conductive, and the grafted oligosaccharides can be simultaneously characterized by mass spectrometry and carbohydrate-binding assay; and 3) the slides are more sensitive than transparent glass slides in binding analysis.
