    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seismometer capable of appropriately setting an initial value of a noise level.SOLUTION: A seismometer defines a noise level multiplied by a constant as a trigger level and determines that there is an earthquake when a signal detected by an acceleration sensor exceeds the trigger level (S20), and thus, when the noise level becomes too high, delay occurs in detection of an earthquake. Especially, when an initial value of the noise level is too high, it takes long hours for the noise level to become an adequate value and, during that period, there is a possibility that an earthquake cannot be observed. Therefore, if the noise level is too high, calculation is repeatedly performed until the noise level becomes an adequate value (S11-S12), and thereby the noise level is adequately set so that there is no possibility that an earthquake observation cannot be performed or the earthquake observation is delayed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seismometer capable of accurately distinguishing whether a detected vibration is noise or an earthquake and accurately grasping that there is a possibility of delay in detection of an earthquake, and a seismometer abnormality monitoring system for monitoring whether or not there is a possibility of the delay in detection of an earthquake by using this seismometer.SOLUTION: A seismometer defines a noise level multiplied by a constant as a trigger level and determines that there is an earthquake when a signal detected by an acceleration sensor exceeds the trigger level (S20), and thus, when the noise level becomes too high, delay occurs in detection of an earthquake. Therefore, it is monitored whether the noise level exceeds a definite threshold (S15, S17), it is determined that the delay in detection of an earthquake would occur if the noise level exceeds a predetermined threshold, and an abnormality report signal is transmitted to a central control unit 5 constituting a seismometer abnormality monitoring system (S19). Then, it is alarmed in the central control unit 5 that there is a seismometer in which the delay in detection of an earthquake possibly occurs.
