    • An endoluminal prosthesis deployment device (50) includes a hollow plunger (52) which is slide-mounted on a narrow inner catheter (54) and an outer sheath (56) through which the catheter and the plunger are sliding. The distal end of the plunger is provided with a soft retractor bulb (60) and the distal end of the inner catheter is provided with a dilator tip (64). The proximal end of the plunger is provided with a locking mechanism (68) for temporarily locking the relative positions of the plunger and the catheter, and the proximal end of the outer sheath is provided with a locking mechanism (72) for temporarily locking the relative positions of the plunger and outer sheath. The deployment device according to the invention accommodates prostheses of different length by adjusting the distance between the distal end of the plunger and the dilator tip. This distance is adjusted by moving the plunger and/or the catheter relative to each other and locking their relative positions with the locking mechanism on the plunger.

    • A self-expanding endoluminal stent-graft (20) includes a conventional wire stent (10) and a tubular deformable material constructed of filaments (22) and having a density and geometry such that when ends of the tubular material are pulled apart, the diameter of the tubular material decreases to one half to one tenth its original diameter. The tubular deformable material is affixed to the interior or exterior of the self-expanding stent, preferably with an elastomeric adhesive (28). A biocompatible porous elastomeric liner is preferably affixed to the interior of the deformable member with an elastomeric adhesive. The tubular deformable member is preferably a PET mesh. The elastomeric adhesive is preferably a melt adhesive used in conjunction with a fibrous or porous layer which is applied to the exterior of the stent with a padding applicator to push the adhesive through the interstices of the stent onto the graft material. A second embodiment of the invention provides a bifurcated (e.g., Y-shaped) graft material.

    • An apparatus (100) and method are disclosed for measuring the desired length of a prosthetic device (104) which is to be implanted in a body cavity (202) of a patient. The apparatus (100) generally includes a helically coiled stent (104) formed of a resiliently-deformable material, a plunger (102) which is connected to the proximal end (118) of the stent (104), a sheath (106) which slides over the plunger (102) and stent (104) when the plunger (102) and sheath (106) are used to insert and removably deploy the stent (104) into the body cavity (202), and a scale (122) for measuring an indication of the length of the stent (104) once removably deployed in the body cavity (202). Proximal movement of the sheath (106) to partially deploy the stent (104) causes a length to be indicated on the scale (122). According to the method of the invention, the helically coiled stent (104) of the apparatus is placed and partially deployed within the body cavity (202) by use of the plunger (102) and sheath (106) of the apparatus (100). Once the stent (104) bridges the body cavity (202), the scale (122) of the apparatus (100) is used to determine the length of the deployed stent (104). The apparatus (100) is then removed from the body cavity (202), and a stent similar to the stent (104) of the appartus is cut to the length indicated on the scale (122). In a second embodiment of the apparatus (300) and method, the stent (304) of the measuring apparatus (300) is substantially non-porous to allow occlusion of side vessels (302, 303) extending from the body cavity (301). The patient is then monitored for any ill effects resulting from the occlusion.

    • A stent introducer (40) includes a hollow tube (42) having a proximal end (44) and a distal end (46) and a cup-like end cap (54) for covering the distal end (46). The cap (54) is coupled to a control member (48) which extends through the hollow tube (42). The proximal ends of the tube and the control member are coupled to an actuation device (56) for effecting relative movement of the tube (42) and control member (48) to move the cap (54) relative to the distal end (46) of the tube (42). The distal end of a stent (10) is inserted into the cup-like cap (54) and the actuation device (56) is manipulated to move the cap (54) and the distal end (46) of the tube (42) together, thereby gripping the distal end of the stent (10). The introducer (40) is inserted into a sheath (70) and pulls the distal end of the stent (10) into the sheath (70), thereby stretching it to its reduced diameter. The sheath (70) containing the stent (10) and the introducer (40) is maneuvered to the site for deployment of the stent (10).
