    • PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized low-priced multi-track thin film magnetic head by changing over the connection of a smaller number of the step-up trans former than plural magnetic head elements which are separated and provided from a multi-track thin film magnetic head, and plural magnetic head elements. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic substrate 1 of a multi-track head is fixed so that an individual head element can be positioned on respective tracks of a rotating magnetic sheet 31. Next, to four electric brush connecting points 15 of a pair of two magnetic head elements 1B on two tracks to execute the frame recording, a non-magnetic substrate 10 is shifted. When the shifting is completed, a recording electric current flows at a secondary winding 13 and the recording to the magnetic sheet 31 is executed. A non-magnetic substrate 10 is shifted in parallel, the access is executed and reproduction is executed so that an electric brush 14 is contacted with an electric brush connecting point 15 of a pair of two head elements 1B on two tracks to fix and reproduce a multi-track head so that an individual magnetic head element on respective tracks of the magnetic sheet 31.

    • PURPOSE:To enable a high precision tracking control as well as high density recording by recording time-divisionally a main signal and a nonsignal in each track and performing the tracking control based on every other pilot signal in a nonsignal area a the time of reproducing. CONSTITUTION:When a tape is traveled in the direction of A, while a rotary head having heads H1 and H2 is rotated in the direction of B, each track is time-divisionally recorded with the main signal (PCM) and the nonsignal (ATF), and at the same time, the pilot signal f1 a single frequency is recorded to every other track in an intermediate part of the ATF area. The signal f1 is sampled from a signal regenerated from a head for dealing with a track, which is not recorded with the signal f1 at the time of reproducing, as a home track and synchronized with an output from a sampling pulse generating circuit 46, and then a cross talk amt. is subject to sample and hold by sample-and-hold circuits 44 and 45, so that the tape 30 is controlled in its movement by a servo circuit 50 in order to equalize this difference.

    • PURPOSE:To apply pilot signals to the recording of a narrow track and high density by recording the pilot signals different in frequencies in adjacent tracks into restricted tracking-only areas and deciding the track deviation of the rotary head with crosstalk from the adjacent tracks at the time of reproduction. CONSTITUTION:Pilot singles f1 and f2 different in frequencies are alternately recorded in the recording areas (ATF part) of the pilot signals at every track, and the ATF areas of respective tracks are set to partially overlap with the ATF areas in the adjacent tracks. Since the pilot signal recording areas ATF are shifted in the longitudinal direction of the tracks, the crosstalk of the pilot signals from adjacent tracks on both sides are taken at mutually different timing. The other pilot signal is reproduced as crosstalk component from the adjacent tracks at first and second timings corresponding to the reproducing timing of the other pilot signal, and the direction and quantity of track deviation can be detected by the comparison of the reproduced levels. Thus, the pilot signals can be permitted to correspond to the recording of the narrow track and high density.
