    • A display device and a method for driving the same, in which the display device includes a storage unit for storing a plurality of reference gradation code data corresponding to a plurality of gradations, and some of variable gradation code data corresponding to some of the gradation points of the plurality of gradations; a signal controller for converting gradations of original pixel data into gradation code signals of different levels using the plurality of reference gradation code data or both the plurality of reference gradation code data and the some variable gradation code data according to an operation mode; a data driver for converting the gradation code signal into an analog pixel data signal; and an image display unit for displaying an image according to the pixel data signal. The original pixel data are converted into gradation code signals of different levels according to an image display mode, thereby preventing luminance degradation and flicker generation due to the image display mode. Only the reference gradation code data and some of the variable gradation code data are stored in the memory to thereby reduce the amount of data stored in the memory, so that manufacturing costs of display devices caused by additional memories can be reduced.

    • A display apparatus and a method of driving the same in which a selector outputs one of two high gamma values and one of two low gamma values in one frame unit in response to a selection signal. A gamma reference voltage generator outputs a high gamma reference voltage corresponding to the selected high gamma value and a low gamma reference voltage corresponding to the selected low gamma value. A data driving circuit outputs a first data voltage based on the high gamma reference voltage during a first active period and outputs a second data voltage based on the low gamma reference voltage during a second active period.     • In a method of driving a display panel, a gate signal is outputted to the display panel based on a first control signal. A gamma-corrected analog voltage is generated. A pre-charge compensating analog voltage is generated. A data voltage waveform is generated to include the generated gamma-corrected analog voltage and the generated pre-charge compensating analog voltage during one horizontal period of the display panel. The display panel has a pixel structure in which a data line is alternately connected to first and second subpixel columns adjacent to each other. The pre-charge compensating voltage has a level different from that of the gamma-corrected analog voltage where the latter represents a grayscale level represented by a received digital data signal. According to the method, display defects due to a difference of pre-charging levels used during plural horizontal periods may be decreased so that display quality of the display panel may be improved.
