    • In a process for fuel injection in a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine, opening signals for the respective injection valves of the individual cylinders are produced as a function of reference signals which are synchronous with the crankshaft. All injection valves are first controlled jointly after the ignition switch is switched on and the sequential opening signals for the sequential fuel injection are produced after the synchronization has been recognized. In order that the sequential fuel injection be switched on rapidly after the start of the internal combustion engine or after a disruption of the synchronization, wherein the fuel quantity injected into opened inlet valves is to be minimized, the opening signals are fed to the injection valves in a simultaneous manner, at least in a phase (a) until the synchronization has been recognized. In addition, the opening signals are simultaneously fed to the injection valves of those cylinders in a phase (b) which have not yet been changed over to sequential operation.

    • A device for picking up the position of an angle of a rotating part which is provided with angle markers 11 or teeth being simultaneously distributed over its circumference, whereby at least one angle marker and/or intermediate space between two angle markers is shaped differently serving as a reference marker 12. This can be realized, for example, by a wide or smaller angle marker or gap between two angle markers. The distance between two angle marker flanks is picked up by a counter 17 which counts a cycle frequency, whereby the counter is a free running continously counting counter. The instantaneously present counter level is transmitted into a storage 18 for each angle marker flank (ascending flank or rear flank) to be evaluated. Subtractions of two successive storage values and comparisons of successive corresponding differential values are performed for recognizing a reference marker. A reference marker signal is generated during a deviation of a differential value by a predetermined dimension from the established differential value, preferably before or after.

    • To place the maximum combustion pressure, which occurs upon ignition, after the piston of an internal combustion engine (ICE) has passed upper dead-center (UDC) position upon starting, a predetermined time interval (Ti) is subtracted from the expected time the piston reaches UDC position, as determined by the time taken for a predetermined angular distance of the crankshaft to rotate; the time between the predetermined angular distances is extrapolated to determine the projected, or expected time of the UDC position. The predetermined time interval (Ti), which may be made dependent upon engine temperature, is then subtracted and the actual firing time computed, for example by counting-out in a counter the differential time interval determined by the subtraction. The timing intervals are preferably derived from a segmental marker system (20,21; A1,A2), in a counter (1), the extrapolation carried out in a multiplier (2) and the subtracting in a subtraction circuit (3). The system is preferably enabled upon closing of the starter switch (S) and may be disabled when a down-counter, determining the actual timing interval, has a negative count output.
