摘要： This invention is directed to single phase solid solvent-containing electrolyte having recurring units derived from a diacrylate monomer having relatively rigid alkane segments within the solid polymeric matrix of such solid electrolyte as described. A preferred diacrylate monomer is 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate. Also, in a preferred embodiment recurring oxyalkylene units of 2 to 3 carbon atoms which are relatively flexible in nature are absent in the polymer backbone of the resulting solid polymeric matrix. A novel electrolytic cell that incorporates the subject electrolyte also is provided. The specific molecular structure having recurring rigid alkane groups present therein as described is believed to include relatively stable three-dimensional openings between adjacent molecular chains which advantageously facilitate the positioning of an inorganic ion salt and solvent among adjacent polymeric molecules during service within the single phase solid electrolyte.

摘要： Nanoscale particles, particle coatings/particle arrays and corresponding consolidated materials are described based on an ability to vary the composition involving a wide range of metal and/or metalloid elements and corresponding compositions. In particular, metalloid oxides and metal-metalloid compositions are described in the form of improved nanoscale particles and coatings formed from the nanoscale particles. Compositions comprising rare earth metals and dopants/additives with rare earth metals are described. Complex compositions with a range of host compositions and dopants/additives can be formed using the approaches described herein. The particle coating can take the form of particle arrays that range from collections of disbursable primary particles to fused networks of primary particles forming channels that reflect the nanoscale of the primary particles. Suitable materials for optical applications are described along with some optical devices of interest.

摘要： Improved high rate batteries based on silver vanadium oxide yield improved pulsed performance. In particular, batteries comprise an electrolyte having lithium ions and a cathode comprising silver vanadium oxide. Improved batteries have a pulsed specific energy of at least about 575 mWh/g when pulsed in groups of four-10 second pulses at a current density of 25 mA/cm2 spaced by 15 seconds between pulses and with 30 minutes between pulse groups down to a discharge voltage of 1.5 volts. In addition, improved batteries can achieve high maximum specific powers, high current densities and no voltage delay in pulsed operation. The batteries are particularly suitable for use in implantable medical devices, such as, defibrillators, pacemakers or combinations thereof. Improved processing approaches are described.
