摘要： A method of protecting a weak point along a cable (34), the cable being subject to stress, comprising the steps of (i) selecting a section of the cable between a source of the strain and up to and including the weak point, (ii) using the section of the cable to form a cable configuration comprising a pair of coils, by - putting a twist in the cable by winding the cable in a first direction to form a first coil, and - taking the twist out of the cable by winding the cable in a second direction to form a second coil, and (iii) securing under tension the cable configuration formed.

摘要： A method of installing an optical fibre in a pre-installed underground pipe (1) extending between a first location and a second location, the method comprising: installing a duct (11) through the underground pipe (1) by: attaching an adaptor (15) to one end of said duct (11); attaching the other end of said duct (11) to a gas compressor (13); blowing gas through said duct (11) as the duct (11) is mechanically urged along the length of said underground pipe (1) from the first location towards the second location, the gas being blown out of the adaptor (15) at a sufficient pressure so as to dislodge debris within the underground pipe (1); and once the adaptor (15) arrives at the second location such that the duct (11) extends along the length of the underground pipe (1), removing the adaptor (15) from the end of the duct (11) and blowing the optical fibre along the length of the newly installed duct (11) between the two locations.
