    • An FM tuner that has a multipath reception detection unit and an adjacent-channel interference detection unit while reducing expansion of the scale of the circuit is available. A control signal for a stereo separation level is generated on the basis of a signal SM-DC corresponding to a reception field strength and of a signal SMP corresponding to a multipath noise component. The SMP is extracted from a fluctuation component signal SM-AC from an S-meter circuit 92 by a multipath noise extraction circuit 104. The multipath noise extraction circuit 104 used for control of the stereo separation level is shared as a portion of the circuitry for detecting the multipath signal reception state. A multipath reception detection unit 108 compares the SMP with a threshold value to detect a multipath reception state.

    • A slice circuit includes a DC component adjusting circuit, an integrator, a low pass filter, and a comparator. The DC component adjusting circuit adjusts only a DC component in an input signal sent from an input terminal to produce a DC component having a uniform voltage level. The integrator amplifies only a high frequency component of or above a predetermined frequency in the input signal received from the DC component adjusting circuit. The low pass filter detects an average voltage of the input signal received from the DC component adjusting circuit. The comparator compares a voltage of the output signal sent from the integrator with a voltage of an output signal sent from the low pass filter, and provides a digital signal having a logical level corresponding to results of the comparison to an output terminal.

    • A varistor includes a ceramic insulating substrate, a varistor section having an outer surface, and first and second external electrodes provided on the outer surface of the varistor section. The varistor section includes a varistor layer on the ceramic insulating substrate, first and second internal electrodes, and first and second via-conductors embedded in the varistor layer and exposing from the varistor layer. The second internal electrode has a portion facing the first internal electrode. The first internal electrode and the portion of the second internal electrode sandwiches at least a portion of the varistor layer. The first and second via-conductors are connected to the first and second internal electrodes, respectively. The first and second external electrodes are connected to the first and second via-conductors, respectively. This varistor has a small thickness and a large mechanical strength.

    • Adjacent interference is reliably detected in an FM tuner. A receiving field strength judgment circuit (102) compares a reception field strength signal SM-DC input from an S-meter circuit (92) and a reference voltage Vref2, and outputs a receiving strength judgment signal SRE. An SD band judgment circuit (104) uses a window comparator to determine, based on an f-V conversion characteristic of a detection output SDET, whether or not a voltage ΔV generated based on SDET is within a voltage range corresponding to a narrow band WN, and whether or not the voltage ΔV is within a voltage range corresponding to a wide band WW; and outputs determination signals SBD-N, SBD-W corresponding respectively to WN, WW. An SD circuit (106) performs a station detection based on SRE and SBD-N, and determines the presence or absence of adjacent interference based on, e.g., SBD-N and SBD-W.
