    • A method for manufacturing a positive electrode for an alkaline storage battery that achieves excellent filing characteristics for an active material for the positive electrode and longer lifetime of the battery is provided. The method includes a first process of filling a paste of the active material for the positive electrode in a first porous metal sheet provided with a plurality of oblate pores whose major axes are arranged substantially in one direction, and a second process of pressing the first porous metal sheet that has undergone the first process using a roller press such that the one direction and a direction of a rotation axis of a roller in the roller press substantially are parallel, so as to produce a positive electrode sheet provided with a second porous metal sheet. In the second porous metal sheet, a value obtained by dividing a length of the pores in the one direction by that of the pores in a direction perpendicular to the one direction and parallel to a surface of the second porous metal sheet averages in the range of 0.9 to 1.1.

    • A battery is provided with a lid member that closes a case, a collector terminal member having an insert-through part, an insulator that electrically insulates the lid member and the collector terminal member, and a gasket that provides a seal between the lid member and the collector terminal member. The lid member has a protrusion protruding downward in the vertical direction from the bottom. A gasket is in the same position as the protruding section in an inside-outside direction, which is perpendicular to the vertical direction, and has a sealing part pressed by the protruding section. At least one gap exists in the vicinity of the seal section in a different position to the seal section in the inside-outside direction, and at least portions of the gaps are enclosed by the gasket and the collector terminal member.

    • A secondary battery includes a cylindrical battery case, a positive and negative electrode body group, a top plate and a battery lid connected to first and second electrode bodies of the electrode body group respectively. The secondary battery further includes a current collector placed on an end of the electrode body group on the top plate side and connected to the first electrode body of the electrode body group and a spacer placed between the top plate and the current collector. The top plate is partly formed with a thin portion. The spacer is formed with through holes in positions corresponding to the thin portion. The portion of the current collector corresponding to the thin portion is in contact with the thin portion through the through hole. The thin portion is deformed when the internal pressure of the battery case rises, thereby breaking electric connection between the top plate and the current collector.
