    • A bicycle hub includs a hub axle, a hub body, a sprocket support member and a spacer. The hub axle has first and second portions threadedly coupled together via a first threaded connection. The hub body has an outer tubular portion and an interior passageway with the first portion of the hub axle rotatably supported therein. The sprocket support member is releasably and non-rotatably coupled to the outer tubular portion and is mounted on the second portion of the hub axle. The spacer is non-rotatably and axially movably supported on the first portion of the hub axle and is threadedly coupled to the hub body via a second threaded connection. The first and second threaded connections are configured such that rotation of the hub axle to release the first and second portions causes the spacer to move axially toward the hub body.

    • A bicycle shifter operating device for operating a shifting mechanism via a transmission element includes a control body for mounting to a bicycle in close proximity to a handlebar for controlling a pulling and releasing of the transmission element. A first lever is mounted to the control body for movement which causes the control body to effect pulling of the transmission element, and a second lever is mounted to the control body for movement which causes the control body to effect releasing of the transmission element. One lever may be pivotally coupled to the control body, and the other lever may be coupled for linear movement relative to the control body. The lever structured for linear movement may be coupled to a transmission mechanism for operating the control body in such a way that very little linear movement is needed to operate the control body. The transmission mechanism may include a plurality of ratchet teeth disposed in a common plane, where the path of movement of the linear operating body is parallel to the plane of the ratchet teeth. With such a structure, the finger contacting part associated with the linearly moving lever may be placed in front of the handlebar (by curving the body of the lever, if necessary) so that the finger contacting part moves toward the handlebar in operation without striking the handlebar. As a result, both levers may be operated by the cyclist's thumb without movement of any other fingers or the palm from the handlebar.

The bicycle control device has a support member, a brake lever, a shift lever and an inner wire winding mechanism. The support member is secured to a handlebar at a proximal end. The brake lever is pivotally coupled to the support member and operates in a brake operating plane. The shift lever is pivotally coupled to the support member and operates in a shift operating plane that is non-parallel to the brake operating plane. The shift lever is attached to the inner wire winding mechanism, which is housed by the support member. The shift lever is configured and arranged to remain stationary during movement of the brake lever.

    • A shift operating device for a bicycle is provided to change gears of the bicycle. The shift operating device is coupled to the front or rear derailleur via a shift cable. The shift operating device is also coupled to a gear indicator device via an indicator cable. The shift operating device has an attachment portion, a hand operating portion, and a take up member. The attachment portion is adapted to be coupled to a portion of a handlebar of the bicycle. The hand operating portion is coupled to the attachment portion to move between a plurality of shifting positions. The take up member is operatively coupled to the hand operating portion to move in response to movement of the hand operating portion. The take up member has a peripheral winding surface, a first cable attachment point and a second cable attachment point. The first and second cable attachment points of the take up member are located such that shift and indicator cables extend outwardly from the take up member and winds about the peripheral winding surface.
