    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable tension detector excellent in the accuracy and a response. SOLUTION: The tension detector is provided with a spindle 200 rigidly coupled to a rigid support member 210 at one or both ends, and a roller 300 rotatably supported by the spindle 200 through a bearing 220, and detects a tension T acting on a continuous body M wound onto, applied to and carried over an outer circumference of the roller 300. A fine pore 210 is provided in a region affected by a shear stress due to the tension in the spindle 200 or the rigid support member 210, and prevents a strength of the spindle 200 or the rigid support member 210 from being affected. A stress sensor 400 for detecting the shear stress is embedded in the fine pore 210. The tension T acting on the continuous body is obtained by using an output from the stress sensor 400.
