    • A stimulation system is described that includes an implantable microstimulator. A tail may be coupled to a distal end of the implantable microstimulator. In one embodiment, the stimulation system includes an implantation tool that includes an insertion cannula, a handle, a bushing, and a detachable blunt dissector tip. The bushing is situated within the insertion cannula and may position the implantable microstimulator longitudinally within the insertion cannula when the implantable microstimulator is placed within the insertion cannula. The detachable blunt dissector tip may be attached to the tail of the implantable microstimulator. The stimulation system may further comprise an end cap that includes an upper portion and a base portion conformable over at least a portion of curved tissue. An open trough extends through the base upper portions and may be configured to guide the implantation tool through the tissue at various angles.

    • A lead-connection system includes a lead and a connector. The lead includes a distal end, a proximal end, a plurality of electrodes disposed at the distal end, a plurality of terminals disposed at the proximal end, and a plurality of conductor wires electrically coupling each of the plurality of electrodes to a different one of the plurality of terminals. The connector defines a port for receiving the proximal end of the lead and a plurality of connector contacts. The number of connector contacts is greater than the number of terminals disposed on the proximal end of the lead. When the connector receives the proximal end of the lead, each of the terminals disposed on the proximal end of the lead makes electrical contact with at least one of the connector contacts of the connector and no two terminals make electrical contact with a same one of the connector contacts.

    • A method of manufacturing a stimulation lead includes providing a lead body having an insulation section that defines a central lumen extending along the insulation section and conductor lumens extending along the insulation section and arranged around, and external to, the central lumen. The lead body also includes conductive contacts located along an axial end of the lead body and conductor wires with each conductor wire disposed within one of the conductor lumens and each of the conductor lumens having at least one of the conductor wires disposed therein. After providing the lead body, conductively at least one of the conductor wires to each of the conductive contacts; and placing non-conductive material into a portion of at least one of the conductor lumens of the lead body. A portion of the conductor lumens and at least a portion of the non-conductive material are disposed radially beneath the conductive contacts.

    • A system for stimulation includes an implantable pulse generator, a lead, and conductors. The lead includes an array body disposed at a distal end of the lead and electrodes concentrically arranged on the array body. A center electrode may also be disposed on the array body. The electrodes may be arranged in more than one concentric ring. A method of using an implantable stimulator includes implanting an implantable stimulator and providing an electrical signal to at least one electrode of the implantable stimulator to stimulate a tissue. The electrical signal may be provided between diametrically opposed electrodes or between electrodes that are not diametrically opposed. If the implantable stimulator has a center electrode, the electrical signal may be provided between the center electrode and at least one concentrically arranged electrode.
