    • An electronic device and method for providing customizing notifications is disclosed. Event generation and handling components are associated with different device event types and for generating a notification event upon occurrence of an event handled by the respective event generation and handling component is provided. Profile management component manages user profiles defining user preferences of notifications associated with different incoming device event types and managing profile exceptions defining one or more notification exceptions to the user profiles. A user notification component generates a user notification for a generated notification event from one or more of the plurality of event generation and handling components in accordance with one of the one or more profile exceptions if a condition of the generated notification event matches a condition of the profile exception or matches with an active user profile of the user profiles that is selected for specifying current user preferences for notifications.

    • A method and system for remotely configuring a desktop mailbox manager. A mobile node operable to communicate within a wireless network includes a remote desktop controller to generate configuration messages for transmission to a home node at which the desktop mailbox manager is located. When reconfiguration is required, reconfiguration criteria are formulated, usually at the direction of the user. The reconfiguration criteria are then used by the remote desktop controller to create a reconfiguration message, which is addressed for delivery to the home node. A network connection is established, and the reconfiguration message is transmitted. A network server associated with the base station through which the mobile node is communicating with the network routes the message to a server associated with the home node, utilizing an appropriate gateway if necessary. The message is stored on the server until the home node establishes communication and then the message is downloaded to the home node. In the home node, the message is used to reconfigure the desktop manager.

    • A system and method for preventing the lapse of a recurring event includes an electronic calendar program having the capability of establishing a recurring event with a predetermined end date. A processor is operative for notifying an organizer of the event at a predetermined time of the end date for the recurring event and permitting the organizer to modify the end date of the recurring event if the event is to continue. The electronic calendar program and processor is operative in a mobile wireless communications device that includes a housing and radio frequency (RF) transceiver contained within the housing such that notifications of the new end date can be transmitted to and received by attendees of the event, including any changed meeting information.

    • Methods and apparatus for automatically grouping user-specific information items (400) in a mobile station (102) are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a method includes the steps of reading a first user-specific information item (404, 406, 408, or 410) associated with a first file or application of the mobile station (102); storing the first user-specific information item (404, 406, 408, or 410) in a user information file or message (402) of the mobile station (102); and repeating the acts of reading and storing for at least a second user-specific information item (404, 406, 408, or 410) associated with a second file or application of the mobile station (102), so that the first and the second user-specific information items are grouped together as user information in the user information file or message (402). Examples of user-specific information items (400) include a user name (404) associated with an end user of the mobile station (102), a telephone number (406) (e.g. an IMSI) of the mobile station (102), an e-mail address (408) associated with an e-mail communication application of the mobile station (102), and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) (410) of the mobile station (102). The user information file or message (402) containing the user-specific information items (400) may easily be transmitted from the mobile station (102) to one or more recipients through a wireless communication network (104) in a message such as an e-mail or PIN message.
