    • The application relates to the field of communications and more particularly to an apparatus and method of generating a new event from a document. In accordance with one aspect of the present application, recognized date/time references contained in a document allow a new event to be created. Such date/time references are automatically recognized and highlighted in the document. Selecting the highlighted information generates a menu selection, offering a user the ability to create a new event into which the date/time information will be inserted, along with other information extracted from the document. Specific date/time information in a document is simply correlated to a known date/time format in a lookup table, while relative terms like “tomorrow”, “today” or days of the week (ie. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.) are recognized by a date/time detector module and translated into a specific date/time. Using an embodiment of the present application, a new event can be readily generated.

    • A mobile device receives via a wireless network an enable message which indicates that a data message has been received and is ready for retrieval. The mobile device then provides an indication which indicates that the data message has been received, and includes a subset of the data message. After providing the indication, the mobile device detects a user-initiated entry into a messaging application. In response to detecting the user-initiated entry, the mobile device examines a setting in a data store which is provided in response to the enable message. If the setting is provided in the data store, the mobile device requests the data message by sending via the wireless network a fetch message and subsequently receives the data message. If the setting is not provided in the data store, the mobile device refrains from sending the fetch message.

    • A new use for a circular, solids retention screen for removable use with a variety of sizes of circular drinking vessels to allow for the separation of liquid from solids contained within the vessel. Typical embodiments for the vessel size can be a drinking glass to allow the user to drink without disruption from the contained ice, whether crushed or cubes. For this embodiment, the invention relies upon a retention screen comprising a continuous, circular, flexible, elastomeric ring. The ring is constructed of an annular base portion with a continuous tapered portion extending radially outwardly from the base portion. Finally, a central, generally flat, liquid passing screen portion is secured from the base portion.
