    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of efficiently inducing a splay-bend transition.
SOLUTION: A plurality of minute structural bodies 31 are formed on a TFT substrate 3. The minute structural body 31 includes a side (a) along a rubbing direction X in which rubbing treatment is performed first and a side (b) along a rubbing direction Y in which rubbing treatment is performed second and an angle θ1 formed by the rubbing directions X and Y is specified to be an angle (a vertex angle) θ2 formed between the sides (a) and (b). Two minute regions having twisted structures having twisted arrangements of liquid crystal molecules different from each other when voltage is applied can be formed by performing rubbing treatment using the minute structural bodies 31. The splay-bend transition can be induced by forming the two minute regions.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of quickly and stably aligning liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal layer, from a spray state to a bend state even without having to apply a high voltage, and to provide a manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: An alignment film of the liquid crystal display device includes a first region which is uniformly subjected to a first alignment in a first direction; and a second region which is subjected to a second alignment in a second direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction and in a third direction that is reverse to the first direction, with respect to fine regions in the alignment film after the first alignment. In this case, the first region may be an optically aligned region, or the second region may be an optically aligned region. When optical alignment is to be carried out, the region to be given optical alignment is, for example, selectively irradiated with ultraviolet rays. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which enables alignment of liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal layer to be quickly and stably shifted from a splay state to a bend state without application of a high voltage and which can stably generate such shifting as above.
SOLUTION: The entire surface of an alignment film on the substrate surface of a substrate 3 is subjected to first alignment treatment (treatment for overall surface uniformity) such as rubbing in a direction (a). Next, regions narrower than the region subjected to the first alignment processing in the direction (a) are subjected to second alignment processing in a second direction (b) forming about 90° to the direction (a) and a third direction (c) opposite to the direction (a). As a result, minute regions 31 subjected to alignment processing in directions (a) to (c) are present in intersections between directions (b) and (c). Respective minute regions 31 are formed within light shielding parts.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a region where the probability of occurrence of defects by rubbing is low and splay-bend transition is induced.
SOLUTION: A microstructure 31 is formed on a CF substrate 4, the microstructure where two minute regions having twist structures with different twist arrangements of liquid crystal molecules from each other are formed when a voltage is applied. The microstructure 31 induces formation of alignment in at least two directions by a single rubbing process. That is, the following two regions are formed: a region where the alignment is formed by the flow of rubbing bristle along a rubbing direction (A); and a region 32 where the alignment is formed by the flow of rubbing bristle in a direction (B) different from the rubbing direction of the micro structure 31 due to deviation of the rubbing direction by the microstructure 31. In the region 32, two minute regions are formed having twist structures with different twist alignments of liquid crystal molecules when a voltage is applied.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of liquid crystal display device capable of quickly and stably aligning liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal layer from a spray state to a bend state, even without applying high voltage, and to provide a liquid crystal display device obtained by the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: Alignment film surfaces of a substrate 3 and a substrate 4 are subjected to rubbing uniformly over the whole surfaces in a first direction. Subsequently, the surface of the substrate 4 is subjected to rubbing in the direction (a second direction) of three o'clock to nine o'clock, with respect to the direction right in front of a panel by using a rubbing roller corresponding to the space and the pitch between pixels. The rubbing roller 51 is formed in a large number of level differences on a circumference of a metal roller base 52 with a prescribed pitch, and thereafter, rubbing fibers 53 are subjected to electrostatic flocking, as rubbing fibers (group).
