By transmitting a request for service in a multiple-address way to a plurality of devices on a network and selecting a service providing device, communicability with the service-providing group can be automatically obtained without prior registration of device information in the respective devices or in any specified device. In this network, the content providing devices provide content information that is described in extensible mark up language (XML). Content information includes a declaration description in which a namespace with a prefix is declared. A value of a prefix is so replaced that prefixes do not duplicate, and a namespace included in content information is reconstructed.
