    • The present invention is concerned with a distribution controller (19) for controlling a distribution of electrical power in an assigned first power distribution region (1). The controller is adapted to be connected to process devices (21) which in turn interact with primary devices (5, 7, 9, 11, 13) of the assigned first region. The distribution controller is provided with a standardized, machine-readable network description of the first region and comprises means to identify, following a network reconfiguration, the extent of an orphan network section (23) that is no longer connected to the first region. The distribution controller is further adapted to transmit a description of the orphan network section to a second distribution controller (19') controlling a second or neighbouring power distribution region (1') to which the orphan section has been connected as a consequence of the network reconfiguration. Due to this capability of transmitting descriptions of the network section changing hands, there is no need to keep and update a description of the entire network in each controller of the power distribution system.

    • The present invention is concerned with a distribution controller (19) for controlling a distribution of electrical power in an assigned power distribution region (1). The controller is communicatively connected to process or secondary devices (IEDs, RTUs) (21a, 21b, 21c) which in turn interact with primary devices (5, 7, 9, 11, 17) of the assigned region. The controller comprises a processing module (29) which implements application function algorithms that calculate, based on process data from process devices connected to the controller, values of a power distribution quantity such as voltage, current, power flow, load, or a phasor quantity of the assigned region. The controller further comprises data servers (27a, 27b, 27c). The controller is adapted for writing the output or results of the algorithms i.e. a value of the aforementioned power distribution quantity, to one of said data servers, and thus takes advantage of the existing controller structure.

    • The present invention is concerned with a method and system for managing congestion in an electrical transmission network. The electrical transmission network includes Power Flow Control Devices (PFDs) that adjust the transmission capability of the electrical transmission network. The method includes determination of a reference generation schedule followed by setting up of an objective function based on the reference generation schedule, a power flow in the electrical transmission network, bids for regulation, an actual generation schedule, and set points of PFDs. An optimisation problem is solved to minimize the objective function for a set of decision variables and the set of decision variables is applied in order to minimize congestion cost in the electrical transmission network.

    • The present invention is concerned with controlling distributing of electrical power in a power distribution region. To effectively control the distribution of power in the distribution region, the substation (3) of the region is provided with a distribution controller (19) or Intelligent Substation Control System (ISCS). The distribution controller is connected to various process devices (21), which in turn arc connected to primary devices (23) of the region. The process devices send data corresponding to the primary devices to the distribution controller, and the distribution controller includes a processing means (29) which proposes a set of actions based on the received data. Further, the distribution controller comprises a coordinating means (33) which selects the final action from the set of proposed actions. The final action is implemented on the primary devices of the distribution region.
