    • An apparatus and a method for transmitting or receiving a signal in a MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) mobile communication system are provided to solve a spatial correlation diagram problem in transmission antennas by using a preprocessing scheme. An apparatus for transmitting or receiving a signal includes a PSC(Parallel to Serial Converter)(311), STBC(Space Time Block Coding) encoders(313-1,313-2), a preprocessing unit(315) and transmission antennas(317-1-317-4). The PSC converts a rearranged transmission data stream into two sub transmission data streams, and outputs each of the sub transmission data streams to corresponding STBC encoders. The STBC encoders encode the inputted sub transmission data stream by using a STBC scheme, and output the encoded data stream to the preprocessing unit. The preprocessing unit serially converts the signals outputted by the STBC encoders and generates double space time transmit diversity symbols.

    • A method for transmitting and receiving signals in a communication system are provided to implement various signal transmit-receive schemes to transmit and receive signals between a base station and a mobile station by presenting hybrid link periods for signal transmission and reception in a communication system which uses a relay communication scheme. A frame comprises the first hybrid link period(610), a downlink period(620), and the second hybrid link period(630). The first hybrid link period and the second hybrid link period support a 2-phase relay scheme, a 3-phase relay scheme, and a 4-phase relay scheme. The downlink period supports the 3-phase relay scheme and the 4-phase relay scheme. During the first hybrid link period, an RS(Relay Station) receives signals from a BS(Base Station) and an MS(Mobile Station) at the same time. During the second hybrid link period, the RS transmits signals to the BS and the MS at the same time. During the downlink period, the BS transmits a signal to the RS when the 3-phase relay scheme is applied. In case the 4-phase relay scheme is used, the RS transmits a signal to the MS during the downlink period or the BS transmits a signal to the RS during the downlink period.

    • A method for making a mobile station receive a communication service is provided to allow the mobile station to receive the communication service from at least two base stations cooperatively, thereby improving a communication performance of the mobile station. Signals are received from at least two base stations(301). Signal strengths of the base stations are measured. An expected transmission rate of a mobile station is estimated. If the expected transmission rate is less than a predetermined standard, at least two base stations are selected according to a signal strength order(307). Information of the selected base stations and channel state information are transmitted to a base station, which is providing or receiving a communication service to the mobile station(309). Powers and resources are allocated from the selected base stations(311). A signal transmission and reception process is performed between the mobile station and the selected base stations by using the allocated powers and resources(313).
