    • A handoff performing method and apparatus are provided to improve the quality of transmission of multimedia data and to perform handoff in terms of signal quality. A transmission side equipment marks the importance of a currently encoded packet at a pre-set portion of the packet and transmits the same. A reception side equipment includes a packet checker(504) for checking the importance marked at the preset portion of the packet transmitted from the transmission side equipment, a handoff estimator(502) for estimating a handoff occurrence time point based on current channel information, and a handoff controller(506) for variably performing handoff such that a packet with a high importance can be received according to the check information about the importance of the packet and the estimated handoff occurrence time point information.

    • A method for performing handover under the consideration of QOS(Quality of Service) in a broadband mobile communication system and a system for providing the same are provided to enable a PSS to recognize received signal strength from a serving RAS and the QOS information of plural available neighbor RASs previously to perform handover, thereby minimizing problems such as the deterioration of the QOS, an increase of a delayed time, and network disconnection. A serving RAS(Radio Access Station)(440) transmits an MOB_NBR_ADV(Mobile Subscriber Station Neighbor Advertisement) message to a PSS(Personal Subscriber Station)(400). The PSS transmits an MOB_SCN_REQ(Mobile Subscriber Scanning Interval Allocation Request) message to the serving RAS. The serving RAS transmits an MOB_SCN_RSP(Mobile Subscriber Station Scanning Interval Allocation Response) message to the PSS. The PSS scans plural neighbor RASs. The PSS selects a target RAS. The PSS transmits an MOB_MSHO_REQ(Mobile Subscriber Station Hand Over Request) message to the serving RAS. The serving RAS transmits an MOB_BSHO_RSP(Mobile Subscriber Station Handover Response) message to the PSS. The PSS transmits an MOB_BSHO_REQ message to the serving RAS. The PSS transmits an MOB_HO_IND(Mobile Subscriber Station Handover Indication) message to the serving RAS.
