    • A process by which fluorine−containing carbonyl compounds having various structures and derivatives thereof can be prepared from alcohols, particularly low−molecular alcohols. The process comprises esterifying R 1 CHR 2 OH (1) with Q f (COF) n (2) to thereby obtain an esterification product containing at least one compound represented by the general formula: Q f (COOCHR 1 R 2 ) m (COF) n−m (3), perfluorinating the esterification product to thereby obtain a fluorination product containing at least one compound represented by the general formula: Q f (COOCFR 1f R 2f ) m (COF) n−m , subjecting the fluorination product to ester linkage cleavage, and then recovering compound (2) and fluorine−containing carbonyl compounds such as R 1f COR 2 (5) from the resulting reaction mixture, R 1 being hydrogen or the like; R 2 being alkyl or the like; R 1f being fluoro or the like; R 2f being perfluoroalkyl or the like; Q f being perfluorinated alkylene or the like; n being an integer of 2 or above; and m being an integer of 2 or above but not larger than n.

    • A method for producing a fluorine-containing polymer (3) which comprises the step (1) of reacting a polymer (1) of an average molecular weight of 1,000 or more having a reactive group (E) such as a hydroxyl group and a C-H structure and being substantially insoluble in a solvent (2) to be used in the following step (2) with, for example, a compound having both a group capable of reacting with the above group (E), such as a -COF group, and a fluorine-containing group (R ), to thereby introduce the group (R ) to the polymer (1), and a step (2) of dissolving a polymer (2) formed in the step (1) into the solvent (2) and subjecting it to a liquid phase fluorination, to thereby replace one or more of hydrogen atoms bonded to a carbon atom in the polymer (2) with a fluorine atom and form the fluorine-containing polymer (3). The method can be used for producing a fluorine-containing polymer with good efficiency by the use of a easily available C-H containing polymer as a raw material.

A compound (5) shown below is thermally decomposed to obtain at least one fluorinated, unsaturated, cyclic ether selected between the compound (6a) and compound (6b) shown below. Reducing the fluorinated, unsaturated, cyclic ether gives at least one fluorinated, saturated, cyclic ether selected between the compound (7a) and compound (7b) shown below. In the formula (5), A represents perfluorotetrahydrofuranyl and X represents fluorine or -O M (wherein M represents a counter ion).
