    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing a metal coil material, which is capable of manufacturing the metal coil material having excellent surface texture.SOLUTION: An apparatus 100A for manufacturing a metal coil material includes: rolling rolls 10u, 10d for rolling a metal; and a reel 17 for spirally winding an obtained rolled plate 1. The manufacturing apparatus 100A further includes: a work roll (such as a pinch roll 13) which is arranged between the rolling rolls 10u, 10d and the reel 17, and brought into contact with the rolled plate 1 that has been subjected to a rolling mill 10 to execute a predetermined action; and a roll side removing member 20 for removing rolling scraps deposited on a surface of the work roll, i.e., a proximal work roll arranged at the position closest to the rolling rolls 10u, 10d. Removing of the rolling scraps that are deposited on the proximal work roll by the roll side removing member 20 prevents generation of large indentations which is caused by pressing the rolling scraps against the rolled plate 1 by the work roll. Thus, the manufacturing apparatus 100A can manufacture a metal coil material having excellent surface texture.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolled Mg alloy material having a wide width and exhibiting uniform mechanical characteristics in the width direction; a Mg alloy member formed by plastically working the rolled Mg alloy material; and a method for producing the rolled Mg alloy material.SOLUTION: The method for producing a rolled Mg alloy material comprises rolling a Mg alloy material with rolling mill rolls. The width of the Mg alloy material is 1,000 mm or more and each of the rolling mill rolls has three or more regions in the width direction. The temperature in each region is controlled in such a manner that the difference between the maximum temperature and the minimum temperature is 10°C or lower in the width direction of the rolling mill roll surface. It is possible to reduce a variation in the rolled state in the width direction by minimizing the temperature difference in the entire width direction of the rolling mill roll. As a consequence, it is possible to produce a rolled Mg alloy material that exhibits substantially uniform mechanical characteristics in the width direction.

The coil material is produced by applying thereto a heat treatment adopting a comparatively short holding time and a comparatively low heating temperature. A highly-strong magnesium alloy plate or a magnesium alloy member formed by applying press working to the magnesium alloy plate can be obtained by allowing the concentration part or a non-solid-dissolving β phase to exist therein.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium weld line excellent in surface cleanability and a method of producing the same.SOLUTION: The magnesium weld line is obtained by performing wire drawing of base material such as extruded material composed of pure magnesium or a magnesium based alloy, then shaving the surface of the resultant as-drawn wire. By applying the shaving after wire drawing, a lubricant and a coating film which are utilized at wire drawing are effectively removed and also an oxide which is generated during the wire drawing is effectively removed. The obtained weld line is therefore excellent in the surface cleanability. It is preferable to utilize an oily lubricant and a wet lubricant which are removed easily by cleaning and degreasing treatment as the lubricant for the wire drawing.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact-resistant member which is lightweight, high in strength, and excellent in impact energy absorption.SOLUTION: The impact-resistant member is composed of a magnesium alloy which contains more than 7.3 mass% and at most 12 mass% of A1. A rectangular test plate piece is made from the impact-resistant member, and an iron ball 30 whose mass is 225 g is freely dropped toward the center part of the test plate piece in a state in which both end parts of the test plate piece are held by supporting bases 21, 22. In this case, when a drop height is defined as a distance from a point from which the iron ball 30 is started to drop, to the test plate piece 10, and the drop height H which makes the dropped iron ball 30 cause no hollows to the test plate piece 10, is measured, this impact-resistant member has the drop height H larger than 340 mm. The impact-resistant member has such a large drop height as causes no hollows and does not dent or hardly dents even if it receives impact. Thus, the impact-resistant member is very excellent in impact resistance.
