    • An antenna in which first and second antenna elements are selected by a switching apparatus so that the first and the second antenna elements are connected to an unbalanced transmission line via a balancing-unbalancing transmission line or only the first antenna element is connected to the unbalanced transmission line. The unbalanced transmission line supplies power via a balanced-to-unbalanced transformation apparatus to the first and the second antenna elements, so as to operate as an antenna, at which time, balanced-to-unbalanced transformation action of the balanced-to-unbalanced transformation apparatus prevents leakage current from flowing from the first or the second antenna element to the unbalanced transmission line and prevents a ground element on which the unbalanced transmission line is grounded from operating as an antenna. This reduces deterioration of antenna characteristics in the vicinity of a human body, so that an antenna device and portable radio set which can sizably reduce deterioration of communication quality can be realized.

    • An antenna device includes a flat ground conductor; a first flat radiation conductor disposed against the flat ground conductor interposing a first dielectric layer; a first short-circuit conductor connecting an end of the first flat radiation conductor and the flat ground conductor; a second flat radiation conductor disposed partly against an opposite side of the first flat radiation conductor with its other side facing the ground conductor interposing a second dielectric layer; a second short-circuit conductor connecting an end of the second flat radiation conductor and the flat ground conductor; and a supply point disposed on the first flat radiation conductor. With this structure, the first flat radiation conductor and the second flat radiation conductor are disposed partly against each other, which enables more size reduction than that of conventional antennas operating at the same resonant frequency.

    • A thinner portable wireless telephone with a thinner built-in antenna. An antenna unit is composed of a first radiating conductor and a second radiating conductor. The second radiating conductor having about half electrical length of the first radiating conductor is arranged so as to correspond the first radiating conductor from its center to one end in parallel. In addition, one ends of the first and second radiating conductors are electrically connected and power is supplied to around the center of the first radiating conductor and the other end of the second radiating conductor. Only electric current flowing on the external surfaces of the antenna unit causes radio waves. As a result, the space between the first and second radiating conductors can be narrowed, thus making it possible to construct a thinner antenna unit. Thus a portable wireless apparatus can be made thinner.

    • In a rotatable antenna unit capable of being externally rotated away from and folded in a portable wireless device, an antenna detachment mechanism is provided, the antenna detachment mechanism composed of a bearing for rotatably supporting the antenna unit on the device by inserting therein and holding a pivot axis mounted on the device and an opening formed by cutting a part of the bearing. As a result, when an excessive external force is applied to the antenna unit being in an upright position, the opening is widened and the antenna unit comes off the portable wireless device. This prevents the antenna unit from being broken.

    • In an antenna device and its assembly method as well as a wireless communication terminal and its assembly method, an antenna element is held in an antenna holding member. A circuit board formed with an electrode to supply power to the antenna element is held on a board holding member. The antenna element and the electrode of the circuit board are electrically connected each other by means of a connection member having elasticity by fixing the antenna holding member on the board holding member. This enables the antenna holding member to be fixed on the board holding member easily because the antenna element is held in the antenna holding member in advance, and concurrently the antenna element can be electrically connected to the electrode of the circuit board by means of the connection member by merely fixing the antenna holding member on the board holding member, thus markedly enhancing the assembly of the antenna devices and wireless communication terminal units.
