    • According to the invention, when a fabric feed device is set to sew a fabric with the straight stitches of smaller feeding amounts (or pitches), a machine operator is not required at first as conventionally to deliberately push the front edge of the fabric forwardly deep between a feed dog and a fabric pressor. The device of the invention is designed to effectively transport and sew the front edge of the fabric at an initial stage of straight stitching of smaller feeding amount. Further according to the invention, an adjustment of smaller feed amount may be effectively carried out in case of button hole stitches and satin stitches.

    • In a computerized sewing machine, initial coordinate values of amplitudes of needle drops (the stitching width) for line-and bar tacks of a buttonhole are stored in a ROM. Desired stitching amplitude values and cut width values are selected by external setting means on the machine and stored in a RAM. The stored desired data are adjusted to coordinates of the present initial values in such a manner that selected needle drop or stitching amplitude values are offset in parallel relative to a center value of a maximum stitching amplitude available in the machine. The widths of stitches of the left-and right line tacks remain unchanged for different cut widths of a buttonhole and only the amplitudes of the bar tack stitches are adjusted to a particular cut width.

    • In a zigzag sewing machine, a mechanism for producing stitched patterns includes a shaft carrying a first group of pattern cams and a second group of pattern cams rotatable by a drive shaft and having different speed reduction ratios. Two followers movable by a pattern selecting dial via a pattern selecting shaft are engageable with the cams of the first and second cam group, respectively. It is possible to select patterns by a control of an actuating pawl which is carried out by operating an independently provided selecting dial. The stitched patterns of the conventional reduction ratio may be controlled without changing their size.

    • A sewing machine comprises an upper shaft adapted in a known manner to reciprocate the needle of the sewing machine. A motor-driven pulley is freely turnable on the shaft and normally connected to the latter by a clutch. A stop cam having an engaging face is fixed to the shaft for rotation therewith and a stop lever is movable by a manually operated lever between an inoperative position located out of the path of rotation of the engaging face and an operating position in the path of the latter to stop rotation of the cam and therewith the shaft upon engagement of the stop lever with the engaging face. Elements cooperating with the stop cam cooperate with the clutch to disconnect the pulley from the shaft when the stop lever blocks rotation of the stop cam. Regulating elements cooperate with a cycle stitch control cam driven by the shaft with a predetermined speed to normally hold the stop lever in the inoperatives position and the stitch control cam moves the regulating elements in a direction to release the blocked lever after a predetermined number of revolutions of the shaft.The sewing machine includes further a switch in circuit with the motor driving the pulley and elements cooperating with the manually operated lever for switching off the motor when the stop lever stops rotation of the stop cam, and manually adjustable cams for moving the regulating elements between an inoperative position spaced from the stitch control cam and an operative position engaging the latter.

    • A zigzag sewing machine includes a needle hole member having a round needle hole of a diameter slightly larger than that of a stitching needle. The needle hole member engages a laterally elongated hole in a needle plate and is swingable along the latter. A base member is mounted coaxially with a loop taker and is rotatable relative to the loop taker. The needle hole member is pivoted to the base member for relative vertically swinging movement. A lever swingably mounted on the machine housing engages with the needle hole member, and a cam rotated in synchronism with the vertical reciprocation of the needle is in engagement with the swinging lever. A stepping motor is operatively connected to the needle to reciprocate the needle laterally in the elongated needle plate hole, and the motor is also operatively connected to the base member to reciprocate the base member.
