    • In the present invention, a coating liquid satisfies the liquid physical property conditions: (A) in the drying process, after the solid content concentration in the coating liquid is increased to 15% by mass or more by drying the coating film, or after the start of drying when the solid content concentration in the coating liquid is 15% by mass or more at the time of coating; (B) the shear viscosity of the coating liquid becomes 5 mPas or more for the shear rate of 103 sec−1 or less; (C) the value obtained through dividing by the average viscosity the first differential coefficient, the increase coefficient of the increase rate of the shear viscosity relative to the increase rate of the solid content concentration is 0.15 or more; and (D) the second differential coefficient, an additional increase coefficient of the increase coefficient relative to the solid content concentration is positive.

    • A coating apparatus for a traveling web comprising two coating heads and a traveling path changing roller is disclosed. A bar coater is arranged close to a pass roller. The bar coater is fixed at such a position as to contact the web when the pass roller is moved down. An extrusion coater is arranged below a backup roller in such a manner as to move up and down. If the pass roller moves up and bends up the traveling path of the web, the web separates from the bar coater. Then, if the extrusion coater moves up, the web is coated with the coating solution by the extrusion coater. If the pass roller and the extrusion coater move down, the web is coated with the coating solution by the bar coater.

    • A peripheral surface of a coating rod has an area where grooves (convex portions) are formed. This area is ground by a grinding apparatus by which a maximum height Ry of the rod surface is adjusted to 15 μm or less. Further, a ratio of D/W is adjusted to 0.01 or more, wherein D is a total distance of the convex portions of the rod actually abutting on a web in an axial direction of the rod, and W is a coating width of the web. Furthermore, straightness of the rod is adjusted to 30 μm or less per 1 m, and roundness of the rod is adjusted to 10 μm or less. Micro-projections are removed by grinding so that scratches of a coating surface are prevented from occurring. Coating unevenness is prevented by improving the straightness and the roundness.
