    • A flow rate detecting element used in heat-sensitive type flow rate sensors for measuring the flow rate of various fluids, particularly, suction air in internal combustion engines. The flow rate detecting element comprises a thin film layer formed by laminating an insulative support film and a protective film on one surface of a planar substrate, wherein the thin film layer is provided with a heat-generating resistor portion and a comparative resistor portion by means of a heat-sensitive resistor disposed in a predetermined pattern between the support film and the protective film, and at least portions of the regions respectively facing the heat-generating resistor and the comparative resistor on the planar substrate are provided with recessed portions extending through the planar substrate in the direction of the thickness, while a fluid passage is provided that communicates with the recessed portion facing the comparative resistor to feed fluid to the recessed portion. The comparative resistor detects the fluid temperature with good responsiveness and on the basis of this information the flow rate or flow speed of fluid can be more accurately measured by the heat-generating resistor.
