    • A method for producing a printable lithographic plate from a negative working, radiation imageable plate having an oleophilic resin coating that reacts to radiation by cross linking and is non-ionically adhered to a hydrophilic substrate. Steps include imagewise radiation exposing the coating to produce an imaged plate having partially reacted image areas including unreacted coating material, and completely unreacted nonimage areas; developing the plate by removing only the unreacted, nonimage areas from the substrate while retaining unreacted material in the image areas; and blanket exposing the developed plate with a source of energy which further reacts the retained unreacted material in the image areas. A plate with a coating containing resin particles can be imaged to produce initial cross-linking, then mechanically developed. Hardening of the imaged areas is completed with a relatively intense post-heating at 160 deg. C., which further cross links the monomer and fuses the resin particles.

    • A method for preparing lithographic printing plates for on-press development, including sequentially feeding the plates to an imaging station to produce a plurality of latent image reference marks allocated among at least two margins along a respective two sides of the plate, and a latent print image within the margins. The imaged plates are transported from the imaging station to a plate bending station where the short ends of the plate are bent over. Between the imaging station and the bending station, the unimaged areas of the coating in at least two of the margins are removed to reveal the reference marks without developing the latent print image. Preferably, the reference marks are revealed while the plate is temporarily aligned in landscape orientation at stop, such as at the feeder to the bending station.

    • A plunge-type router is disclosed which has a base and a head assembly that is vertically adjustable by an adjusting mechanism. The plunge router includes an electronic control system with a digital display and control functionality that enables the router to accurately determine a baseline or zero position for a router bit installed in the router and permits the user to input a depth of cut value or other predetermined command. The control system then automatically causes the motorized adjusting mechanism to go to the appropriate position. The electronic control system enables the storage of multiple depth settings as well as multiple step or macro operations. In this regard, macros may be run to provide incremental cutting necessary for performing multiple passes to achieve a relatively deep depth of cut.

    • Drag reducing apparatus for the rear end of a road vehicle such as a truck or trailer comprises a storage container in which an inflatable bladder is rolled on a support shaft for displacement relative to the container between a stored position and a deployed position in which the inflatable bladder covers the rear surface of the vehicle and is inflatable to provide an aerodynamic contour extending rearwardly of the vehicle. The inflatable bladder is extendable and retractable relative to the container by cables having ends attached to the container shaft and opposite ends connected to a cable shaft, whereby rotation of the latter pulls the inflatable bladder from the container and rotation of the container shaft in the opposite direction rewinds the bladder into the container for storage. Guide and support tracks and a spring clip arrangement hold the periphery of the bladder against the rear surface of the vehicle when the bladder is in its deployed position.

    • A multiple-reader system for authentication of articles uses a first reader (400) which employs predetermined modulated illuminating light (20) and a multiplicity of discriminating variables, such as wavelengths (110), amplitudes (120), and time delays (140) relative to the modulated illuminating light (20) to characterize fluorescent light (70) detected from fluorescent indicia on the articles. The fluorescent indicia may also incorporate spatial distributions such as bar codes as discriminating features. Additional readers (410 and 420), which may be readers of fluorescent marks and/or readers of other indicia, are synchronized with the fluorescence reader by timing signals. The discriminating features may be re-programmed by the user of the authentication system. Thus the discriminating features define a user-determined and programmable encryption of the articles' authentic identity. The outputs provided by individual readers (400, 410 and 420) are combined by a computer (85) programmed to produce the authentication result. The fluorescence authentication reader includes integration and synchronization of multiple readers of various types, an improved coaxial optics subsystem (450), and electronic circuitry with improved time-base stability, which cooperate in enhancing signal/noise ratio. The resultant stable triggering of the authentication output of the individual fluorescence reader, combined with time synchronization of the individual fluorescence reader with other readers, provides a reliable integrated multi-reader authentication system.

    • An improved method of and structure for mooring for example supertankers offshore which combines the mooring process and the connections of cargo transfer lines into one simple operation and includes a mooring buoy capable of fluid transfer which is particularly adaptable to a super port type operation. The buoy includes a relatively long flotation caisson structure having a relatively small diameter, such proportion insuring greater stability in rough sea conditions. A flow line is located down the center of the buoyant caisson and extends above the bow of the ship it will service. A fitting is located on the top end of the flow line which is capable of securely attaching to a mooring pedestal located on the bow of the ship. This arrangement allows fluid flow between the riser structure and the ship as well as forming a substantial mooring linkage between the ship and the anchor lines which are attached to the bottom of the buoy. The system also includes the use of a mooring winch on the ship. The line from the winch is conducted through the hawse pipe in the center of the mooring pedestal and is attached to a hang line, which extends down from the center of the attaching head of the riser structure. The winch will pull the attaching head down around the mooring pedestal where it is automatically latched. This simple operation moors the ship as well as connects the fluid lines.
