    • A multi-stage suspension for an axle of a vehicle comprises a first spring, for example a set of leaf springs (24), having a high stiffness which is linked to the axle via a connection which is inoperative at low loading. At low loading suspension is provided by a second spring, for example an air bar (50), having a low stiffness interposed between the first spring and a pivotal arm (38) which supports the axle. Light loads are thereby carried by the low stiffness second spring while high loads are carried by the high stiffness first spring. The mounting of the second spring between the first spring and the pivotal arm (38) results in full axle movement being maintained without restriction by the presence of the second spring whereby the axle is capable of movement over rough terrain.

    • A container system for transporting sensitive equipment comprises a box-like container (4) mounted by air bags (10, 12) within a frame (2). The frame (2) supporting the container (4) is loaded onto a vehicle and the air bags form a suspension which isolates the container from shock loading and vibration. The inflation of the air bags can be controlled to set the height of the container within the frame. A set of detachable legs (20) can be coupled to the container and frame and controlled inflation and deflation of the air bags can generate vertical displacement between the container and frame which can be used to enable the container and frame to climb up and down the legs. This facility can be used to effect loading and unloading of the container and frame onto a vehicle.

    • A modular artillery charge system consists of two distinct solid propellantharge modules. Each module consists of a three-piece combustible cartridge case design and bi-directional center core core ignition system. The three-piece combustible cartridge case consists of a combustible case body, having an open end and a end; a cap, having a closed end and an open end; and a center tube. The closed ends of the body and the cap have a hole in the center. The center core tube is positioned longitudinally through the combustible case body, and contacts the closed ends of both the cap and the body. The bi-directional center core ignition system comprises a core igniter bag and two end igniter bags. The core igniter bag occupies the center core tube, and the end igniter bags contact the core igniter bag. The bi-directional center core ignition system may be ignited by percussion primers or a laser ignition system. The first module is used individually or in groups of two. The second module is used in groups of three or more. The modules are not used with one another. The modules are distinguishable by color and by shape, so that the modules may be distinguished even under conditions of complete darkness. Each module has a coating applied to the exterior of the case, and mylar seals over the ends, to provide protection to and from the environment.
