    • A method and apparatus may provide encrypted digital content through any public communication channel in a secure way to end customers, wherein nor the encryption key neither the decryption key needs to be transmitted through the public channel. The customer has a key storage device (RFID tag) with a content identifier and a decryption key. The method for encrypting data comprises the steps of receiving (S5) a request with a content identifier and an asset identifier (assetID), searching in a first database (DBMS2) the content identifier and retrieving (S7) a corresponding encryption key and related status information indicating if the request is valid. If the request is valid, digital data identified by the asset identifier (assetID) are retrieved (S9) from a second database (DBMS1) and encrypted (E) using the encryption key. Then the encrypted data are sent to a requestor, who can decrypt it with his key storage device (RFID tag).

Said method comprises receiving object data from a data stream, buffering the object data in a first buffer area and transferring the object data to a storage device.
