    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain samples from surface array spots having analytes by the automated sampling system and a method of analysis using an electronic spray. SOLUTION: The system includes at least one probe, the probe including an inlet for flowing at least one kind of eluting solvent to respective ones of a plurality of spots and an outlet for delivering the analyte away from the spots. An automatic positioning system is provided for translating the probe relative to the spot to permit sampling of any spot. An electrospray ion source having an input connected by fluidity to the probe receives the analyte and generates ions from the analyte. The ion source provides the generated ions to a structure for analysis to identify the analyte, preferably being a mass spectrometer.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed preamplifier circuit, detector electronics, and a radiation detection system.SOLUTION: A preamplifier circuit includes a transimpedance amplifier which receives a current signal from a radiation detector and generates an amplified voltage signal. An output of the transimpedance amplifier is coupled to a second amplification stage. Detector electronics include a first transimpedance amplifier which receives a current signal from a first location on a detector and generates a first voltage signal, and a second transimpedance amplifier which receives a current signal from a second location on the detector and generates a second voltage signal. The second amplification stage provides first and second amplified voltage signals. A differential output stage receives the first and second amplified voltage signals and provides a pair of outputs from each of the first and second amplified voltage signals. Readout circuitry has a processing structure for processing each of the pair of outputs. The processing structure provides a single digital output having a time-stamp therefrom.
