    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switching device and an optical receiver having a simpler configuration and contributing to short range communication at a higher speed than those of the prior art.
      SOLUTION: The invention includes a plurality of nodes 10, 20, 30, 40 and nn each including an optical receiver 1 and an optical transmitter 2; and an optical switching device 100 which performs "optical switching" described below in detail to an optical signal entering via an incident port 3 from each node and emitting it from an exit port 4. The optical switching device 100 has an optical distributor not shown which distributes a common optical signal into all outgoing optical transmission lines, and a functional optical combiner which partially transmits each individual optical signal entering from each node to one or more predetermined outgoing optical transmission lines. The optical receiver 1 has a beam splitter 11 which splits an optical signal incident on the light receiver 1 into the individual optical signal and the common optical signal, a first optical detector 12 which detects the individual optical signal split by the beam splitter 11, and a second optical detector 13 which detects the common optical signal split by the beam splitter 11.

Wavelength multiplexed signal light has the beam diameter enlarged by a collimator lens and then is made incident on the optical switch, and only signal light of the wavelength selected by the voltage applied to the optical switch is diffractively reflected by the optical switch.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunable laser light source that detects the degree of out-of-tune-ness by a simple configuration, and to provide a method of controlling the same.
      SOLUTION: The tunable laser light source includes a gain medium 1, a tunable band rejector 2, an etalon 3, and a transmitted light detector 4. The gain medium 1 is capable of amplifying light within a wavelength band including a target wavelength. The a tunable band rejector 2 is positioned opposite to the gain medium 1 thereby forming an edge of a laser resonator and is capable of rejecting light with a certain wavelength tunable to the target wavelength from the incident light emanating from the gain medium 1 while transmitting the remaining. The etalon 3 is positioned between the gain medium 1 and the tunable band rejector 2 and is capable of selectively transmitting light with certain wavelengths including the target wavelength. The transmitted light detector 4 is positioned to the place where its incident light enters through the tunable band rejector 2 and is capable of detecting the power of the light. The tunable laser light source may further comprise an optical coupler 5, a beam splitter 6, and a branched off light detector 7. The optical coupler 5 is capable of coupling with the laser beam emanating from the gain medium 1. The beam splitter 6 branches off a part of this laser beam. The branched off light detector 7 consists of such as a photo diode and is capable of detecting the beam branched off by the beam splitter 6.

The filter 1 controls the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer using a voltage to be applied between the silicon substrate and the transparent electrode layer. The wavelength variable optical filter 1 is incorporated into the external resonator type wavelength variable semiconductor laser device.
