    • An image display device which includes a parallax adjustment unit, a display unit, a parallax detector, and a maximum parallax detector. The parallax adjustment unit is configured to obtain a right-eye image signal and a left-eye image signal. The parallax adjustment unit is configured to adjust a parallax between the right-eye image signal and left-eye image signal and output an adjusted image signal that includes an adjusted left-eye and adjusted right-eye signal. The parallax detector is configured to detect an amount of parallax between the right-eye and left-eye image signals. The maximum parallax detector is configured to detect a maximum value. The display unit is configured to display a right-eye image and a left-eye image and to display an augmented image including the right-eye image and the left-eye image as well as a monitor image indicating the amount of parallax detected and the maximum value.

    • A projection image display device has a plurality of light sources, a phosphor layer that emits light through excitation by at least any one of the light sources, an optical section, a temperature detector, a light-source intensity controller, an amplitude controller, a luminance controller. The optical section determines an optical path of light emitted from the light sources and the phosphor layer. The temperature detector directly or indirectly detects temperature of the phosphor layer or of the periphery of the phosphor layer. The light-source intensity controller controls intensity of an excitation light source that excites the phosphor layer. The amplitude controller controls the amplitude of a projection image signal. The luminance controller controls luminance of projection images by switching the light-source intensity controller and the amplitude controller according to a detected temperature.

The outer housing includes a window for displaying the optical image to the outside. The image display apparatus includes, in the outer housing, a heat insulator placed so as to surround the image display unit and a cooling device for cooling inside the outer housing, and the cooling device has a variable cooling capacity. The image display apparatus is abatable to changes in the ambient temperature and the internal power consumption and the presence or absence of sunlight and can be installed in a variety of outdoor environment, so that a high degree of reliability can be achieved.
