    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biochemical reactor in which the flow rate control of descending flow in a treating vessel is easily performed.
      SOLUTION: In the biochemical reactor, a solution to be treated is circulated in the treating vessel in which the carriers carrying micro-organisms etc. are packed and a specified element and compound in the solution to be treated is decomposed and transformed by a biodegradable operation. The biochemical reactor is provided with a cylinder body which is vertically fixed and arranged in the treating vessel and a descending flow imparting means which forms a descending flow of the solution to be treated in the cylinder body. Therefore, the flow rate control of the descending flow is facilitated in the treating vessel.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrification and denitrification method by which nitrification and denitrification can be carried out in a tank and reduction in a size and a cost is attained. SOLUTION: In the method, nitrogen in waste water is nitrified and denitrified in the tank. Two or more microorganism immobilization supports different from each other in oxygen permeability are put in the tank filled with waste water and ammonia nitrogen is converted to nitrous acid and nitric acid, further converted to gaseous nitrogen and removed in the tank under slightly aerobic conditions. The concentration of dissolved oxygen in the waste water in which microorganism immobilization supports are put, is kept at 0.5-1.5 mg/L while uniformly mixing the waste water in the tank. The mixing ratio between the two or more microorganism immobilization supports may be varied.
