    • A main object of the present invention is to provide a color filter with no light leakage and the like when incorporated into a liquid crystal display, and also, those in which pseudo-defects are scarcely detected in the color filter defect inspection, and a method for manufacturing the same. To achieve the above object, the present invention provides a color filter comprising: a transparent substrate; a light shielding part, formed on the transparent substrate, containing at least a light shielding material and a resin; and a pixel part formed on an opening of the light shielding part on the transparent substrate, wherein when an edge side shape, in a range of 100 μm to 200 μm in length, of the light shielding part is converted into coordinate data having coordinate points in a range of 1000 points to 10000 points, and an approximate line is calculated from the coordinate points by least-square method: a standard deviation σ ⁢   ⁢ ( = 1 n ⁢ Σ i ⁢ X i 2 ) (wherein n is a number of the coordinate points in the coordinate data) when Xi is a distance from each coordinate point to the approximate line is 0.2 or less; and in a graph of the coordinate data, when an apex of a peak projecting upward is referred to as an upper apex and an apex of an peak projecting downward is referred to as a lower apex, among the peaks whose distance from the approximate line is 1.0 μm or more, a distant between the adjacent upper apexes and a distant between the adjacent lower apexes are 5.0 μm or more on average.

    • It is an object of the present invention to provide an alkali-soluble maleimide-based copolymer excellent in resistance for thermally yellowing, high in hardness, excellent in solubility in solvents and capable of readily forming uniform coat films and, in addition, capable of being satisfactorily dissolved in alkali water when remaining uncured, as well as a pigment dispersion composition comprising such copolymer and an ionizing radiation-curable resin composition comprising such copolymer. Another object of the present invention is to provide a color filter and a liquid crystal display which are formed by using the ionizing radiation-curable resin composition. The present invention is related to an alkali-soluble maleimide-based copolymer which comprises, as essential constituents, 5 to 50% by mass of a maleimide monomer unit which is at least one unit selected from the group consisting of a N-cyclohexylmaleimide monomer unit, a N-benzylmaleimide monomer unit and a substituted N-benzylmaleimide monomer unit, 8 to 30% by mass of the (meth)acrylic acid monomer unit and 30 to 87% by mass of a (meth)acrylic acid ester monomer unit and which satisfies the condition represented by the formula: 0.4×X≦Y≦0.5×X+10  where X is the content, in % by mass, of the N-cyclohexylmaleimide monomer unit, the N-benzylmaleimide monomer unit and the substituted N-benzylmaleimide monomer unit and Y is the content, in % by mass, of the (meth)acrylic acid monomer unit.

    • Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device which can assure a desired cell gap at the time of heat contact bonding involved in the assembling of cells in a liquid crystal display device and, after the preparation of liquid crystal cells, has excellent reliability, can cope with an increase in cell thickness at high temperatures, and can inhibit a foaming phenomenon in a liquid crystal layer at low temperatures. The liquid crystal display device comprises: two substrates; a liquid crystal sandwiched and supported between the two substrates; and spacers, for maintaining a predetermined substrate-substrate spacing, provided on at least one of the substrates in its portions where the liquid crystal is sandwiched and supported, the spacers being formed of a photocured resin layer, the photocured resin layer having such properties that, as determined by the measurement of dynamic viscoelasticity in the temperature range of −40° C. to 80° C., the storage modulus (E′) is not more than 5.0×109 Pa with the loss tangent {tan &dgr;=E″ (loss modulus)/E′} being not more than 0.1 and, as determined by the measurement of dynamic viscoelasticity in the temperature range of 120° C. to 180° C., the storage modulus (E′) is not less than 5.0×107 Pa with the loss tangent {tan &dgr;=E″ (loss modulus)/E′} being not more than 0.3, or alternatively the photocured resin layer having a Young's modulus, derived from a stress-strain curve, of not more than 10,000 MPa at 25° C. and not less than 10 MPa at 150° C. or a dynamic hardness of 30 to 60 under load.
