    • Provided are an authentication method, authentication system and a terminal device in which the authentication of a non-participating third node is can be simplified and can be executed in the case of multicast by using an authentication ticket in a distributed processing network system, the non-participating third node being intended to access each of the nodes, including a first and a second node, constituting a workgroup. The first node that has already participated in the workgroup authenticates the third node intended to participate in the workgroup and issues the authentication ticket including the signatures of both nodes, and when the authentication ticket is submitted to the second node, the second node permits the third node to access, without password-based-authentication, by authenticating the first node and the second node which have signed the authentication ticket.

    • In an image-processing employing a dither matrix a basic dither pattern is formed of a set of a plurality of basic patterns each including a plurality of pixels. In a single basic pattern a single pixel is assigned 1 serving as a number indicating an order followed to illuminate a dot in the dither matrix. When basic dither patterns are arranged longitudinally and laterally a location remotest from any pixel assigned a number is selected and a pixel at that location is assigned a subsequent number. This series of operations is repeated. When there is no basic pattern that is not assigned a number, in basic pattern a number indicating an order followed to illuminate a dot is assigned to allow the dither matrix to a dither matrix of dot convergence type. Thus a dither matrix allowing an image processing apparatus to satisfactorily reproduce an image can be created.

    • A multi-tone image processing method and apparatus in which mutually dissimilar tone levels are realized by changing the additive condition of recording energy by means of different recording positions, even when the number of recording operations within a specific range is identical. For example, in an electrophotographic apparatus, when the number of irradiation by a light spot within a specific range remains constant as the irradiation position is changed in the specific range, there is a change in the additive condition of the optical energy within said specific range. Thus, the area rendered visible within the aforesaid specific range also changes, thereby changing the tone level.
