A series of preset keys are sequentially labeled and one preset key, such as the preset key marked "0," is a pre-defined preset key. Radios with two tuners that each process different sets of radio signals assign channels for a particular tuner to alternating preset keys, allowing acceleration of sequentially selecting channels assigned to pre-set keys by pre-tuning another tuner to the next channel in the sequence.

    • Satellite earth Sensors (ES) generate scan lines, areas of detected infrared information gathered across the view of the earth by the satellite. The length of these scan lines is utilized by the satellite Attitude Control Subsystem (ACS) to determine the satellite pointing in roll and pitch. There are areas on the earth during particular periods of the year that can cause earth radiance gradient disturbance effects, satellite attitude errors caused by the ACS-calculated length of the scan lines becoming faulted. This invention includes methods and systems for minimizing disturbances to the satellite attitude for satellites in inclined, elliptical orbits that use infrared earth sensors to determine pitch and roll angles. These include identifying areas where earth radiance gradient events cause such disturbances and the prediction of times of such occurrences and methods for mitigating the effect of such events.

    • Systems and methods for wireless transmission of a modulated audio signal to a receiver using near-field or proximity transmission are presented. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, such systems and methods can receive a broadcast signal with a first receiver, generate an audio signal therefrom, and then use a modulation device to convert the audio signal into a modulated signal. The modulated signal can be retransmitted wirelessly via a radiating element. The radiating element can, for example, be placed in close proximity to a second receiver, thereby enhancing the wireless link from the modulation device to the second receiver, and allowing the radiating element to operate at a relatively low power. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the broadcast signal can be, for example, a satellite radio signal, and the retransmission can occur within a vehicle, the second receiver being, for example, an in-vehicle conventional AM/FM radio system. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the radiating element can be remote from the first receiver, and can be co-located or integrated with the modulating device in a remote location. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a digital to analog converter can also be collocated, in-line with, or integrated with the modulating device and radiating element in the remote location.

    • Systems and methods are presented for digital antenna diversity combining. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, at least two antenna signal paths can be communicably connected to a receiver. Each antenna signal path can be provided with an RF tuner communicably connected to a demodulator, which can estimate the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and time of arrival of its respective antenna signal. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a time alignment circuit can be communicably connected to each antenna signal path, and a maximum ratio combiner can be communicably connected to the time alignment circuit. In operation, the time alignment circuit can use the time of arrival estimate to align the multiple signals and the maximum ratio combiner can use the SNR estimate obtained for each antenna signal to respectively weight each signal and thereby generate a combined output signal. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a switch diversity combiner can be further provided, and can quickly detect when an antenna signal is entering a fade, allowing the maximum ratio combiner to set that signal's weight to zero. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a digital diversity combiner can be provided in a stand alone integrated circuit, or can be integrated in a larger integrated circuit, such as, for example, a satellite radio overlay processor.
