    • A self-heating product container includes an open-top outer container, at least an upper portion of which is circular in cross section. A product compartment is disposed within and is rotatably and sealingly engaged to the upper portion. The volume of the outer container not occupied by the product compartment defines a single-use chemical heater that includes an upper chamber containing a first reactant, a lower chamber containing a second reactant, and a frangible seal therebetween. At least one chisel element is hingedly connected to the product compartment and rotatable therewith. At least one camming element is located such that rotation of the product compartment brings the chisel element into contact with the camming element, and that further rotation causes the chisel element to hinge downward, tear the seal thereby permitting the first and second reactants to mix, initiating a heating reaction.

    • A thermal blanket is capable of generating heat at a desired rate. The thermal blanket includes a lower thermoplastic film sheet having a top side, a bottom side and edges, an upper thermoplastic film sheet having a top side, a bottom side and edges corresponding to and bonded to the edges of the lower thermoplastic film sheet, and a planar matrix layer between the top side of the lower thermoplastic film sheet and the bottom surface of the upper thermoplastic film sheet between the edges and bonded to at least one of the lower or upper thermoplastic film sheets. The planar matrix layer has randomly distributed voids, at least some of which contain oxygen-activated heating composition. The planar matrix layer has sufficient integrity to prevent substantial lateral migration of the heating composition.

    • A disposable flow-through refrigeration system includes an evaporator chamber(10) containing a refrigerant, which, during system operation, evaporates to form a vapor; an evacuated absorber chamber(30) including sorbent(32) for receiving the vapor, a heat sink material(40) in thermal contact with the sorbent(32), and a means(44) for preventing vapor flow from evaporator to absorber until operation of the refrigeration system.
